Manchester City finally book their place in the FA Cup quarter finals as they hit five for the second match running and confirm their double Gameweek 27.

Man City 5 Huddersfield 1

A Sergio Aguero brace and fine performances from Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane broke a spirited Huddersfield at the second time of asking.

It also sparked an overnight rush to buy into the consequent double Gameweek for City, who travel to Sunderland at the weekend before entertaining Stoke City next Wednesday.

Aguero leapt from ninth to fifth for players purchased with more than 36,000 swooping in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, Sterling rose to second (from fourth) with over 28,000 investing overnight. Both John Stones and Sane also enjoyed an increase in transfers among Fantasy managers keen to exploit the short-term appeal of Pep Guardiola’s players.

And short-term it is. A blank Gameweek 28 will follow, with Liverpool at home and away matches at Arsenal and Chelsea to come after that.

The victory over Huddersfield was a very City performance – at times irresistible in attack, often incoherent in defence.

The recalled Claudio Bravo looked like a man giving up goalkeeping for Lent when he dived over a Huddersfield shot to give the visitors a shock early lead.

But when Sane equalised from a Sterling assist and Aguero scored from the penalty spot following a foul on Nicolas Otamendi, the tie was only ever going to end one way.

A Pablo Zabaleta tap-in from an Aguero cut-back before the break confirmed the primacy of their attack, although the visitors still had good chances either side of half-time as City’s defence once again failed to impress.

Sterling set up Aguero for his second and substitutes Kelechi Iheanacho and Jesus Navas combined to round off the scoring at the death as a tired Huddersfield finally capitulated.

Aguero (12.7) now has four goals and three assists from his last four starts in all competitions and his high price is clearly not an issue for some Fantasy managers.

Guardiola was certainly keen to talk him up post-match.

“It’s the best Sergio Aguero ever. Today the performance was amazing. The runs were at the right moment and the right tempo. His performance was top.”

Sterling, however, is looking particularly consistent – he has either scored or assisted in his last six matches in all competitions – and his 7.8 price tag is rather more easily afforded by those with less cash to splash.

Let’s also not forget Sane, though, whose opener took his tally to four goals and three assists in his last seven starts across all competitions. Setting you back 7.5 and with 1% ownership, the German looks well set to emerge as an enticing differential for the double.

Manchester City X: Bravo, Zabaleta, Stones, Otamendi, Clichy, Fernandinho, Sane (Navas 81), De Bruyne (Delph 75), Garcia, Sterling, Agüero (Iheanacho 79).
Subs not used: Caballero, Sagna, Fernando, Silva.

I'm midway through a U-turn and I'm starting to think that TC Aguero is actually the smart decision, based on what we know, even if it does end up going spectacularly wrong.

GW37 looks like it might be ideal for bench boost (better time to use it anyway imo) - probably leaving GW34 for triple captain, Ibra (bur & sou) could be the best option there.

Fixtures - Aguero (sun & STK) VS Ibra (bur & sou)? Who knows, but one set of fixtures is known and the other is not. Looking at the last few results, City VS sun & STK could hardly be better.

Rotation/Injuries/Form - Admittedly Sanchez and Ibra probably won't be rotated in their DGWs, but it could happen depending on how the fixtures fall around them - even so, injuries can happen and form can change. We might be more reluctant to TC Ibra if he registers multiple 2 pointers beforehand.

Ownership - Aguero's will be lower, this DGW is at short notice - he will not be as highly owned as Ibra/Sanchez/Costa will be when they are clear TC options.

Captain coverage - if Aguero's ownership is lower, then there will be less people covering your TC with a C. This is pretty important, we will probably be captaining the best DGW options later on in the season.

I'm using Ben Crellin's spreadsheet and assuming that Arsenal beat Lincoln, Tottenham beat Millwall and Chelsea beat Man Utd. It probably won't happen like that, but either way, I'd say that Sanchez is very unlikely to get one that week.

I am 50/50 and had the same view a few days ago but drifting away from TC Aguero now.

Aguero could very likely start only one DGW game imho, in which case he just needs to be covered as Captain.

The TC waiting game / gamble with Zlatan and Sanchez is unbearable though now that Kun has popped his DGW head up

GW34 is the weekend before the Europa league semi final first leg.

If your thinking of TC Ibra in that week then he may be rested. I know he hasnt been rested at all really this season but he has already played 38 games by that time he could have played almost 50 games if they get through to the semis.

        Just food for thought.

Sterling TC for me this week, not busting my team to get Kun back in. Doubled up with Sane so pletny of points potential there.

Sanchez is and always has been my first choice TC, and now probably no Champions League to worry about.

Man City has added a bit of spice to the decision though 🙂

Guilty. Messes with my plans. going forward.

      GW27: Phillips > Sterling (C) (-4)
      GW28: Save (hopefully)
      GW29: Sterling > Sanchez & Lukaku > Gabbi (Free)

      My team is:

      Heaton Foster
      Alonso Coleman Baines Brunt Robertson
Mané Siggy Antonio Sterling de Roon
      Costa Ibra Lukaku

Only way to get Agüero in for a -8 rather than a - 12 is for Ibra. I don't really want to lose Ibra going forward, either. Especially not against BOU.

Basically I have my moves lined up and bringing in Agüero really Messes with them, as I don't plan to keep him after this DGW.

City fixture analysis (mainly for my own benefit, but thought I'd post it here):

    1) March 5: Sunderland (a) [PL]
    2) March 8: Stoke (h) [PL]
    3) March 11: Middlesbrough (a) [FA Cup]
    4) March 15: Monaco (a) [CL]
    5) March 19: Liverpool (h) [PL]

This is important for the question of the TC. How will Guardiola manage the team over this set of fixtures?

    1) First team against Sunderland - no reason for rotation. Expect attackers to be substituted, perhaps early, for the next game.

    2) Some rotation against Stoke - only three days after the previous match, and if City want to win the FA Cup fixture, they will probably have to play at least some of the first team players.

    3) Weakened team against Middlesbrough - the Champions League match against Monaco will be prioritized, so heavy rotation can be expected.

    4) First team against Monaco - City have a decent chance of going through but Monaco are a good team, so the first team will be needed.

    5) Some rotation against Liverpool - important match so most of the first team will play again, but some changes in the attacking line-up seem likely.

Aguero, Sterling and Sané are the best options from the City team.

Aguero: Iheanacho would seem to present the only alternative unless Sterling is used as a false nine. A starting place in matches 1, 2, 4 and 5 seems likely, although expect him to be substituted if City are winning.

Sterling: has played virtually every match he has been available this season. I would guess that he will play in matches 1, 2, 4 and 5. Might be substituted in matches 1, 2 and 5. It is possible he might be rested for match 2, but based on the pattern of the season so far this seems unlikely.

Sané: City have other wingers (Nolito, Navas), and Sané is probably not as favoured as Sterling. If Guardiola does take the FA Cup match at all seriously, Sané could be a candidate for rotation in match 2. So he might start matches 1, 3, 4 and 5, for example.

    Summary:

    - Aguero and Sterling are more secure options than Sané
    - Aguero and Sterling should start both matches in the DGW
    - If this is the case, both could be substituted early against Sunderland
    - If both are rested for the FA Cup match, they might well be given 90 minutes against Stoke
    - At least 150 minutes for both Aguero and Sterling in the DGW seems likely

Would you play Baines at Spurs this week or Gibson against Stoke?

Other than whether or not to TC Aguero that's my tricky decision... advice?
