Eden Hazard and Diego Costa find their feet away from home and punish the legions of Fantasy Premier League managers who dismissed them ahead of Gameweek 27. Elsewhere, Manuel Lanzini’s late goal blinked the Argentine on the Gameweek 28 radar, while causing yet more frustration in Chelsea’s defensive assets.

Here’s the Stock Check following Monday’s action…

On the Rise

Eden Hazard
Without a goal away from home since the Gameweek 14 victory at the Etihad, the Belgian overcame concerns of his form on the road to convert Chelsea’s counter-attacking opener.

The 11 points – Hazard’s seventh double-figure return of the season – took him to 163 points, second only to Alexis Sanchez overall.

With an aggressive chase for Manchester City assets taking place prior to this Gameweek and a blank to come, Hazard had suffered more than 179,000 sales prior to the London Stadium visit.

But with a double Gameweek to be scheduled and kind short-term fixtures against Stoke City and Crystal Palace, Hazard surely remains in our thoughts for the run-in.

With doubts surrounding Arsenal’s form and a seemingly unsettled Sanchez, the Belgian’s stock as a heavy-hitter midfield asset appears strengthened and we’re likely to see his ownership rise again once Gameweek 28 has passed.

Diego Costa
The Spain international doubled up with Hazard to punish the thousands of FPL managers who traded their Blues assets for City acquisitions.

More than 156,000 moved Costa out of their squads in the scramble for Sergio Aguero and, while that’s a move that could, and should, return profit, the Chelsea man nonetheless issued a reminder that he cannot be easily dismissed.

Monday’s effort, a simple tap in from a Cesc Fabregas corner, was his first goal on the road since a Gameweek 17 headed winner at Crystal Palace.

Despite the perception that Costa has struggled to keep pace with Romelu Lukaku and Harry Kane, he has returned a goal or an assist in four of his last six Gameweek starts.

Nonetheless, doubts remain on his ability to “explode” double-digit returns.

Costa produced nine points on Monday and has broken the 10-point barrier on just three occasions; Lukaku and Kane have supplied six double-figure returns apiece.

Manuel Lanzini
A strike at the death proved a bitter blow to those FPL managers holding Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso and his defensive team-mates, but it also offered further indication of the Argentine’s recent form.

While we will still likely focus on the appeal of the returning Michail Antonio for the Gameweek 28 visit to Bournemouth, Lanzini at 6.3 to Antonio’s 6.9, clearly has the potential to provide an effective differential.

With three goals and a trio of assists in his last six Gameweek starts, Lanzini certainly makes a case to supersede Robert Snodgrass as the option to undercut Antonio.

Snodgrass has delivered one assist in his four Hammers’ starts so far, despite creating nine chances – more than any of his team-mates over that four-match spell.

But the Scot has lagged behind in terms of goal threat. Lanzini has fired in 12 efforts on goal over the last four Gameweeks, compared to Snodgrass’ disappointing contribution of just five attempts.

In Decline

Marcos Alonso
Established as the go-to option in the Chelsea defence around these parts, Alonso is beginning to cause some concern following the Blues’ run of five Gameweeks without a clean sheet. Lanzini’s late goal means that Antonio Conte’s rearguard has kept just two shut-outs in their last nine outings.

Attacking returns have also somewhat dried up over that spell, with the Spaniard contributing a single goal over his last six outings – his last assist was back in Gameweek 19.

But patience is perhaps a worthy policy; Chelsea have strong short-term fixtures and Monday night again saw the Spaniard bomb forward on occasions, earning four penalty area touches – only Costa (five) manager more for the Blues.

Ultimately, our degree of patience shown in Alonso and the Chelsea back four may depend on the “cost of sale” and a reluctance to abandon a prime defensive asset prior to a Chelsea double Gameweek.

Winston Reid
Hobbling off on 68 minutes with what appeared to be an ankle problem, the Kiwi is now an early doubt for West Ham’s visit to Bournemouth in Gameweek 28.

With two goals and three assists to his name, Reid is arguably the key asset for those considering a Hammers defensive acquisition.

Any absence would cast real doubt on investment elsewhere, with Cheikhou Kouyate or James Collins likely to deputise alongside Jose Fonte.

Slaven Bilic’s defence have not kept a clean sheet on their travels since Gameweek 8, a factor that should perhaps be considered when weighing up the merits of Bournemouth’s Josh King as a short-term purchase.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    What to do with Hazard?

    A) transfer out for cout/firm for -4, already have Mane.
Bring Alexis in that place later

    B) transfer out for a WHU mid for -4, have no hammers.
Bring Alexis in that place later.

    C) just bench, field 9 this gw, turn into Alexis later

120 points behind my league leader. I know it's ambitious, but is that catchable at this stage?

I have Aguero TC, Sterling and Grant left on Weds, against nobody from his team.

I have bench boost, he only has AOA. Both have wild cards.

If you already have the players most likely to score big in GW28 (Lukaku, Mane, Siggy), is it viable to save a FT?

On current form I would like to focus on players from Spurs and City, and I'd also like Gabbiadini for his two DGWs. None of them play in gw28 and it therefore seems a bit silly to bring in someone like Llorente or Lanzini, who I am not convinced will perform untill it's time to wildcard and who have no DGWs.

    1. LakhaneeFC

Saving an FT makes sense. But if you're chasing - the hit to get in Llorente might pay off handsomely.

    Coleman / Mawson / McAuley / Brunt
    Mane / Sigurdsson / Carroll / King
    Lukaku(c)

    Pickford / Ibra / Aguero / Sterling / Alonso / 1.1m in the bank(-4)

Shame you already have 3 Swans because Llorente (as a holding player for a few weeks) for the soon to be suspended Ibra looked the natural move.

Yep. Think I'm gonna dump Ibra for Llorente before the price drop. Tiny gamble but I'll keep some of Ibra's price rise & might get 0.1 on Llorente. He's probably a decent pick for a couple of weeks.
Plus, it's just more fun having players playing! Worse case scenario, I lose a couple of points. Best case...?

True that! They've had a bad spell, and will pick themselves up someday. If they win against Burnley and play well its an indication that they are on their way back. Also, no cups and fighting for 4th place means they will be more rested and less likely to be rotated than City, spurs and united.

    Heaton
    Brunt, Baines, Mawson
    Siggy, Snoddy, Mane
    Kaku, Carroll

nothing else really worth bringing in for a -4 this GW right? Lads in my ML have noticed the lack of games and sound like they will be taking hits to bring in players.

Looks good enough. Maybe Llorente if your 3rd striker isn't Kane.

I like the fact that all you Kun triple captainers migh be beaten by the "noobs" who didn't know about the DGWs and kept Alli, Kane(C) etc...

As long as my Kane(TC) pays off ine the end

Preferred front 3 once things settle down etc?
    I'm on
Ibra ,kun ,lukaku at the moment .
    Kane,lukaku,gabbiadini

Should be able to afford big hitting dgw midfielders then.

    What are you're plans??

Gabbiadini Kane Ibra is the ideal template.

I might go Deeney Llorente Gabbiadini and then I can have a brilliant rest of the team.

I'll see how they all prefor over the next 2 weeks

Kane is a must. Lukaku still has some good fixtures, though its possible I will sell after Hull, it depends on how he is looking.
And Gabbiadini and Defoe look potentially great value.

So Kane-Gabbi-Defoe if I see the attraction in midfield, however I do need Ibra for his DGWs. No clear conclusion to this expect that I am definetely having Kane and at least one of Gabbiadini and Defoe, probably Gabbi for his 2 DGWs.

Having looked at the stats, Gabbiadini also looks way better than Llorente. I haven't seen the matches though.

I currently have Aguero - Kane - Lukaku and will look to move Lukaku on after 29, not 100 % sure what to do with Aguero but if I shift him to Gabbiadini I can do Phillips > Alli and get in Rose when he is fit, which are massive upgrades for me. I can see Kane as a safe captaincy option untill the end of the season anyways.

Kane for me due to impending doubles, plus his explosiveness as a captain. Basically if you don't own him and he hauls its red arrow time.

Lukaku for the next two due to his ability to score when expected at home against poor sides. After that long term I'd be looking to move on - a dgwk 34 striker most likely.

Gabbiadini - winning the race for the cheap strikers for me. Great start plus two dgwks.

My current forward line: Kane Lukaku Barnes

It seems that I will probably need to switch to 3-4-3 to accommodate Ibrahimovic (who I am not sold on, but will probably need) and Gaddiadini. I doubt that will happen in the next few weeks, unless there is an early double Gameweek.

      Kane 100%.

Probably Lukaku as nr 2, with Llorente or Gabbiadini the best bets for nr 3. I would really like Carroll to be a good enough choice as nr 3, but the other two look miles ahead unfortunately.

      1) Kane a must have for rest of season.
      2) Kun from GW 32.
      3) Swap back and forth between Costa/Lukaku or Llorente/Defoe/Carroll etc depending on whether you are 352 or 343.
      4) ** Ibra get in potentially for DGW depending on form.....and DEFO for TGW IF it happens.

Of course, the way this season is going, this plan is not worth the paper........

I like Lukaku-Gabbiadini-Kane as I think you could cover Chelsea in midfield, and also this forward line leaves room for a strong midfield.

Kane Lukaku Kun until fixtures turn for Lukaku then downgrade to gabby /Llorente. Kun is fixture proof and still a slight differential as in so many dead teams.

Change according to fixture and form? I will have Kane, Lukaku and Llorente in gameweek 29, looking to change Llorrente to Gabbiadini in 30. Then I could get Costa in for Lukaku at some point. However, Kane’s never scored when in my team (!), so it’ll be interesting to see this time.

Both - take -4 - better than a blank in your team (unless you already have 11 of course) plus good fixtures post GW 28.
