FPL Draft Game Revealed

Fantasy Premier League have revealed the forthcoming release of a new draft game for the 2017/18 season.

After much rumour and suggestion, the news arrived via an update to the official app and offered some early information on the game type.

First things first, it’s important to stress that the new FPL draft game will be free to play and run alongside the “traditional” game as an addition to our season.

The game will allow for the formation of leagues with between 2-16 members. Within those leagues, teams will consist of the usual 15-man squads but, of course, the squads will be unique. So only one team in each league can own Harry Kane.

Like the traditional FPL game, leagues can run in the classic form or in the head-to-head format. We can set up leagues or put ourselves in public leagues with “strangers”. If you really want to, you can enter up to ten leagues over the season.

Details on how the draft will work are yet to be released but it is stated that no budget will be in place. Therefore the draft will take place without player prices, operating a similar “snake” draft system that we’ve seen in other games such as Dugout FC, with players “taking it in turns” to select players until a squad is complete.

The game will use the exact same scoring rules as FPL, with bonus points applying.

This new FPL game follows two years on from Ultimate Fantasy Premier League – a version that was closed for the 2016/17 season. Many of us miss that incarnation and will welcome this new development as an addition to our seasons.

Certainly for those who can recall auction nights in the original Fantasy League, FPL Draft could represent a blissful return to those halcyon days where we battled to get Alan Shearer in our squads.

We will bring you more information on FPL Draft in the weeks to come, including our take on the strategies involved.

The classic FPL game remains on course for a release in the week of July 10.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    BREAKING NEWS Confirmed:

Everton are delaying completion of the Lukaku move to Manchester United until after FPL launches so that he's priced as an Everton player. Ronald Koeman is said to be keen to save .5 - 1.0 for spending on strong wingbacks.

Everton are trying to say Rooney not part of the deal but United think Rooney worth 10 mil plus half wages. Everton want Chelsea to think He is worth 75 mil on his own.

Arsenal have really done the dirty on him by leaking his wage demands. It paints him as a greedy mercenary and turns the arsenal supports against him. And at £400K per week it indicates that only City can afford him.

Yeah, as an Arsenal fan I don't begrudge him the move. That Bournemouth game where the players went mad at pulling it back to 3-3 while Sanchez was furious summed up everything and in retrospect was when we lost him.

Just hope Arsenal can get good money for him to reinvest...won't happen of course.

Surely your dad can see that Lukaku is class? Plays for a poor team yet continuously gets huge returns? He's young and consistent, if he was English or at a big club everyone would rate him. Yet somehow he's got a 'flat track bully' label. Every striker scores more v worse teams. He plays for a team that is significantly worse than the top teams, why is it a surprise he doesn't score as many v them?

As an Arsenal fan I'd take Lukaku over any striker bar Kane Agüero and of course (Ronaldo Messi Neymar Suárez).

I just think Morata's technical ability and overall game looks a lot more promising. I just don't see Kaku suiting our style of play. I could easily be wrong though.
I said the same thing about Tekkers when he signed for Liverpool and got slaughtered.

Just don't rate Kaku in the world class bracket, he doesn' compare to Zlatan in my mind.(Maybe I'm bonkers)

Morata is an above average player who has done nothing at Real Madrid. Lukaku has scored 20+ goals a season consistently in the PL. Just because Morata is at Real doesn't make him good.

Deulofeu about to come on and change the game!

I don't cream over these types of goals as much as the common man tbh. I like how the run begins, but after that, the stars simply aligned for Lukaku, as it does for anyone who runs at defenders enough with or without a high skill level.

Yeah, I agree about video highlights. But he showed pace and skill last season on a number of occasions. He's been improving massively.

I don't think Arsenal would sell Alexis to any competitor in PL. It just makes no sense at all.

The only way out to City for Alexis would be if Arsenal manages to bring Mbappé. Otherwise it will be an additional year for Alexis or Bayern Munich (or PSG?)

Mbappe was always out of the question.

No sense? He's an asset worth anywhere from 40 mill up that will become worthless when he leaves on a free this time next year. If he wants to go, makes sense to sell. If only City bid, then you'd have to let him go.

PSG are starting to eye up Coutinho, if they cannot get their hands on Mbappe. Would certainly make choosing a Liverpool mid easier if he goes.

Mahrez feeding Lacazette could be lethal this year. I can see the two working together very well.

Is it possible for a multi-billionaire to come in to a club and spend £1.5bn on transfer fees in one transfer window. Compile something like this:

    De Gea
    Azpi Kompany Vertonghen
    Coleman Kante Herrera Rose
    Ronaldo Lukaku Bale

Some of these very wealthy people do have £bns in the bank as cash so could afford the fees and wages.

With FFP - no, in theory.

Would that only lead to a ban though in future transfer windows? By which time it would be too late as you would have compiled your squad?

I dunno what the potential punishments are for breaching FFP - they may be able to apply more than just transfer window bans (points deductions, disqualification etc)

It could lead to anything from fines, reduced squad numbers, transfer ban, reduced salary of all members in the squad, few seasons of European football ban.

          Possibilities are endless.

    Lukaku to Manchester United?

BBC just reported that Manchester United are about to hijack the deal of Lukaku to Chelsea.

Let's assume the deal happens. Will he flourish or decline. Or, playing in Everton, Chelsea or United will not have any effect on his performance?Thoughts?

I have no idea what's good in Sky at all, but it looks good to me. I threw something quick together, but we need the days of the fixtures first to plan our captains.

      Forster
      Gabriel - Stephens - Dummet
      Pogba - Fabregas - Ramsey - Lanzini - Redmond
      Aguero - Lukaku

Not looked at the Sky game properly yet, but looks good to me.

Would probably look to get a destroyer type midfielder in though.

Traditionally, defenders don't score too well, but that's likely to change this season with the points changes.

I think if you keep an open mind this game could be amazing. Obviously people like what they like and are resistant to change- but give it a go I say.
The real skill is in the draft.

I am curious as to whether you'll still pick a captain each week though - I can imagine that'll tilt it slightly in a top 5 picks favour.

Actually the release of Draft game opens some interesting opportunities.

An entire multi-season hierarchy can be created with promotions/relegations between seasons. Yes, like Dugout FC, just in official game (am I the only one who doesn't like all these third party games and dreams about everyone playing only "the game"?)

I did not agree with Dugout system of "first come first serve" to distribute players in leagues (tiers).

So why don't make an option to join an "official" mini-league, for an entry fee of, let's say, 10 pounds.

This would create a prize pool of 160 pounds per mini-league. Prizes can be distributed to first 3 places 80/50/30.

I think having a real stake makes the game more interesting and makes you visit it more often. Not all of us have 15 fantasy addicts among friends (which are ready to play for money).

Can someone here whisper this to official developers while it is still "not too late"?

UFPL had an entry fee so I don't think this will be something new for Premier League.

Next season leaders of current year "mini-leagues" can advance to "next tier" league where for the same entry fee the prize pool would be higher (with small contribution from premier league). This way in few seasons we will have a clear hierarchy of leagues with different prize pools. Relegations and promotions. It can be fun and addictive!
