Dugout Discussion – Brighton vs Newcastle

Sunday’s solitary fixture gets underway at 4pm as promoted pair Brighton and Hove Albion and Newcastle United square up at the Amex Stadium.

With many now filling their forward lines with premium frontman, we get the chance to run the rule over a trio of budget midfielders today.

The Seagulls’ Pascal Gross has played a part in all four of his side’s goals so far, serving up two goals and a pair of assists in his last two outings.

He was the second top transfer target for Gameweek 6, with over 381,000 transfers in.

For the Magpies, Matt Ritchie has bagged four assists in his previous three, while Christian Atsu’s goal and assist over his last two starts has also turned heads.

Indeed Ritchie and Atsu, along with team-mates Jamaal Lascelles and Chancel Mbemba have been subject to heavy investment over the last week, with a combined 783,000+ transfers in.

Newcastle number one Rob Elliot is the most owned player for Sunday’s clash, sitting in 23.7% of squads after conceding just once in his previous three. Yet he is the most benched player in the Gameweek, with over 808,000 naming him among their subs.

OK bugger this! I'm doing Firmino & Mkhitaryan > Vardy & Silva (for free and before I'm priced out tonight) I know early transfers are risky especially with midweek games but he who dares wins!

    Who's with me????

Getting rid of Mhki before Palace and Man City have Chelsea? Waste of transfers in my opinion.

Why drop Mkhitaryan before he plays Palace for Silva who plays Chelsea?

He won't be able to get Silva for Mkhi after this week because of the price rises. I'm in the same boat and understand where he's coming from. Going forward I would much rather have Silva than Mkhi but I'm going to resist the urge to do it and reassess over the international break.

Then find another way, it will only be 0.1m difference, 0.2m max.

I don’t understand why people are suddenly scrambling to take Mkhitaryan out of their teams.

He may not have looked amazing over the last couple of games but he’s still a massive threat.

It seems patience has gone out the window on here lately.

      Why?

Firminho is just as likely to get points as Vardy this week.
And Mkhi might outscore Silva (by a lot).

(However, Silva will be better value for rest of the season.)

Would you do Alonso + Mooy > Otamendi + Salah for -4?

    Foster, Elliot
    Alonso, Jones, Davies, Lowe, Mbemba
    Mkhi, Eriksen, Richarlison, Mooy
    Kane, Kun, Joselu

Yeah definitely. I still see Alonso as a season keeper despite the blank, but Salah is such a huge upgrade on Mooy.

They will be long term moves, Mooy has to go and I'm doubting Alonso's value. City looking a bit tighter at the back this season and 5.6 is great value for a City CB with goal scoring threat

Agree. It’s a meaningless stat. Anyway, Liverpool don’t have to win for Salah to get massive points.

I’ll take a 4-3 Newcastle win if Salah and Elliot get a hattrick each.

Unlikely. Aguero had risen already and was half way to his second by this time last week.

I think there could be a few double risers this week because so many of the players who performed last week were already close to rising. Chelsea playing City may put a few off although it shouldn't as there have been 3 goals or more in the last 5 meetings between the two clubs.

Likely risers tonight - D.Silva, Morata, Sane, possibly Coutinho.

Likely fallers - Firminho, possibly Mee and Rangel (plus a bunch of players nobody on here owns).

If you own or want any of these players and intend to transfer in or out this week now is the time to do it and save the 0.1m.

I dunno tbh, I'm just naturally cautious of rises and falls, thankfully without being stung thus far. Highish tv is key to the 2nd WC. So I guess just squirrelling away with a few early moves while trying to avoid anything stupid

I don't think high TV should be your aim. That's a false strategy if it is at the expense of points/hits etc. But anyway, there's more than one way to play this game. How many hits have you taken or have you used your WC already?

It's not so much the 'too much Liverpool' bit that's the problem, it's Emre Can by himself as a fantasy player.

This, Can isn't a good option. Can get some wingers in from the smaller clubs for the same price or 0.1m more.

I understand how you feel though, quite worrying but starting to reach the time that people get rid or cut down on their United assets. Think it's best to hold firm.

If you feel United attack is essential then consider
            A) Aguero to Lukaku
            B) Mkhi to silva

but once again, difficult to get them back so not worth it imo

Mee has been hovering between -95 and -100 for weeks now. TAA's drop has been quicker. Based on those rates I'd assume TAA is likely to drop first.

It decimates the rest of the team. There's a lot of crap in midfield too at the 5-6m price range. Just ask those who're stuck with Mooy, Gross. They had their haul but if you missed it, then look at the other returns.

          1. Pierce34
            • 8 Years

You think the 5-6m strikers are better than the 5-6m midfielders then?

              6 years, 8 months ago

Not really, but I'm just hoping that by being in front of goal they fluke a return or two. Think they are all equally bad but the midfielders are in general not even getting close to scoring because they aren't anywhere near the box. Joselu is so useless but he's missed 4 sitters in the last two matches. He just doesn't have quality, but I was hoping for exactly those types of chances and for him to bury may be 1 of those. Looking at the 8-8.5m mid + 5-6m striker combo and not in isolation.

              1. Pierce34
                • 8 Years
                6 years, 8 months ago

I would argue that Richarlison and Choupo-Moting are exactly that kind of midfielders - getting the box and taking shots. Richarlison is playing on the left of a front 3 (the Mane position) and Choupo-Moting swaps between that and OOP striker.

I'm not saying they'll score loads of points but I'd back them to score more than Joselu or any other striker in that price range, especially with 1 more point per goal and the clean sheet point.

Yeah, fair enough. I can't believe the chances Joselu has missed. Just watch the last two games. Any half decent striker should be getting 2 goals at least.

Well, I can roll over 2 FT this week, but then I need to use those to get rid of Lukaku and Mkhi. And I can play that waste of space Phillips or Joselu this week. Tempted to splash the savings from the United double transfer out and go with a solid back 5 to play 5-3-2 or 4-4-2/4-3-3 with one of Phillips/Joselu.

Why do you need to get rid of Mkhitaryan and Lukaku?

They are two of the best players in the game currently.

      1) Alexander-Arnold to Ward/Mee

      2) Having to play Loftus-Cheek is a problem. Could do Eriksen to Silva, Loftus-Cheek to Richarlison/Choupo-Moting. Not a wealth of options and I'd hate to lose Eriksen, but would be a more balanced midfield.

        The points are more important.

I agree with points being more important and over the course of the season I think firmino will score more than vardy but with 2 FT firmino tough fixtures vardy good fixtures and no obvious transfer to make decided to avoid the price drop. Another reason is I have gone with 6 big hitters with my wildcard and firmino has produced the least points so far with 6 meanwhile the 2nd lowest is mkhitaryan and alli with 14 in the 3 week period

Haha, TAA and RLC are the two players I will forever associate Mark with. If you don't think TAA is worth a spot in your side with Burnley at home, and on corners and set-pieces, then you shouldn't be on the scoutcast. 🙂

Own Mkhi but man I'm scared of Lukaku even with my armband on Kane for his hat trick

    Thoughts
    A) Kun to Lukaku -4, if Kun rises twice I can't get him back (0.2 itb 11.6 sv on Kun)

    B) Leave it and trust Kane, Kun and Vardy to do the business + Mkhi to cover

B, don't chase points. You survived when Morata scored his hattrick and Agüero scoring his (assuming you didn't have him then), you'll survive Lukaku's potential haul as well.

Kane and Vardy are amazing captain choices this week. Bournemouth never defend, Vardy could easily get a hattrick.

Hope so mate, tempted by the Vardy captaincy but too early to be maverick, vc is more than enough for him besides want to captain Kane for his hat trick

Don't do it for a hit, it ain't worth it and you'll need Aguero for the fixtures AFTER Chelski...

I think you need Lukaku, a big haul with his ownership will kill you.

Swap and change your big hitters a bit for fixtures, but I think Lukaku has scored in all but one game in all competitions this season - only a matter of time until he gets a big haul
