Scout Notes

International Scout Notes – Sunday

The Fantasy Premier League’s biggest midfield guns give it their Sunday best across Europe and Africa, while Harry Kane is at it again for an otherwise drab England.

Here are the notes from Sunday’s World Cup qualifiers.

Big hitters wield their influence

The four most popular midfielders in Fantasy Premier League were all in action last night.

And all four brought cheer, of varying sizes, to their owners.

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (34.1%) hit a historic double for Egypt as they qualified for the World Cup for the first time in 27 years with a last-gasp 2-1 victory over Congo.

The Reds winger converted a 95th-minute penalty to win a tense match in which Premier League players Ahmed Hegazi, Ramadan Sobhi, who played 87 minutes, and Mohamed Elneny also featured, with West Brom centre-half Hegazi having one effort cleared off the line.

Salah now has seven goals in all competitions this season, but back-to-back matches against Manchester United and Chelsea will test a player whose 16.7% conversion rate is the second-worst among the top eight scorers from midfield.

United’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan (32.3%) opened the scoring for Armenia in their 1-1 draw away in Kazakhstan.

Mkhitaryan is the fourth most sold player since Gameweek 7 came to an end, with 101,000+ managers seeking pastures new as United’s schedule also stiffens – Jose Mourinho’s men face Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea over their next four fixtures.

Spurs’ Dele Alli (27.4%) is just below Mkhitaryan in the transfers-out table as more than 96,000 FPL bosses have reacted to a barren spell in which he hasn’t scored in the league since Gameweek 3.

Alli did provide two assists in Gameweek 6’s win over West Ham and followed that up with another one for England last night as he was fouled for the decisive penalty in the Three Lions’ underwhelming 1-0 win in Lithuania.

Spurs’ schedule is another that is turning tough – BOU LIV mun CRY ars – and trust in Alli is suffering as a result.

The same can’t be said for Alli’s team-mate Christian Eriksen (25.7%), who scored for Denmark for the second consecutive match, converting a penalty in the Danes’ 1-1 draw with Romania.

Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen and Leicester City keeper Kasper Schmeichel played the full 90 minutes alongside Eriksen, with FPL managers divided as to the midfielder’s appeal – nearly 44,000 have moved him out this week, with another 36,000+ acquiring his services.

It’s Kane…again

One Spurs player seemingly impervious to the matter of fixtures is Harry Kane.

The in-form striker scored the winner in Lithuania – his second goal of the international break – and also has six goals from his last four league matches.

That run has persuaded over 280,000 managers to make him FPL’s most bought player of the Gameweek, although he played the full 180 minutes of October’s international schedule.

England boss Gareth Southgate chopped and changed over that break, with the 14.0%-owned Man City full-back Kyle Walker given the night off in Vilnius. Spurs’ Kieran Trippier (4.3%) took his place.

On the other flank, West Ham’s Aaron Cresswell played at left wing-back as the 11.4%-owned Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand returned to his club as a precaution following recent back problems.

The 8.7%-owned United striker Marcus Rashford did start both matches, however, as did Walker’s team-mate John Stones (7.9%).

But another City man, Raheem Sterling (6.1%) watched on from the bench.

Mustafi adds to Gunners’ concerns…

Arsenal centre-half Shkodran Mustafi lasted only 36 minutes of Germany’s 5-1 win over Azerbaijan before limping off with a thigh problem.

German coach Joachim Low appears pessimistic on the prognosis for the defender.

“I think Mustafi has a muscle tear. It looks a bit more serious. A hamstring injury to a muscle tear, we have to wait for the exact diagnosis, but he’ll probably be out for a long time.”

With Laurent Koscielny missing the Gameweek 7 victory over Brighton with ongoing Achilles problems, Arsene Wenger’s defence is suddenly appearing uncertain ahead of their visit to Watford next weekend.

The Gunners have kept four consecutive clean sheets prior to that Gameweek 8 trip, with Nacho Monreal collecting over 75,000 new owners as the third most signed defender over the break.

Calum Chambers is also recovering from a hip problem, so it would appear that Rob Holding (4.7) is set to retain his start in the back three should Mustafi – as expected – be sidelined for a sustained period.

Emre Can and Antonio Rudiger scored for the Germans, while Leroy Sane provided an assist in a convincing victory.

The Liverpool and Man City players started and finished the match, while Chelsea’s Rudiger came on in the 22nd minute.

Elsewhere…

A Chris Brunt own goal proved decisive in Norway’s 1-0 win over Northern Ireland.

Bournemouth’s Josh King missed the fixture with a hamstring problem picked up in Norway’s 8-0 drubbing of San Marino on Thursday, but Brunt, Gareth McAuley, Jonny Evans and Steven Davis all played the full match for the visitors.

Andrew Robertson, Darren Fletcher and Matty Phillips started and finished Scotland’s 2-2 draw in Slovenia, while Crystal Palace’s James McArthur played 79 minutes.

Thoughts on getting bonus points for not using a WC?

Say 50 points for each wildcard not used.

Dumb idea. Might as well just get rid of the wildcard, nobody in their right mind would use it with that system.

I just think if you have not needed to use it, you've played the 'game' right. Don't do away with the wildcard, but if players don't use it, that should be rewarded.

Maybe 50pts is too high though.

Yes, 50 points is far too high but i agree it would be good to reward managers who got their team right in the first place.
Maybe a bonus 10 points per wildcard not used at the end of the season?

May as well just scrap the wildcard in that case. You can already make mass changes to your squad and pay points for the privilege.

If someone wants to do a mass overhaul and make 13 changes they can pay 48 points.

If someone else decides not to then they don't have to.

Ridiculous idea. WCs aren't always used when your team isn't good, can simply be a fixture swing.

Then you could take 2x20 point hits to justify not using wildcard as you’d get 50 points back. Silly idea

Unlucky injuries and transfer window shenanigans could effectively ruin your season in the first couple of months - WC is as much a safety net as a way of flipping your team into the template.

As no one has replied allow me.
      What system are you playing?
Because if it ain't 532 you are wasting money on your bench.
And by wasting I mean throwing it away. Even then you have 3 million sitting on your bench.
You're mid is too weak in my opinion and 2 injuries and you're in big trouble.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    Rate My Wildcard Team

With many wildcarding this week I thought I'd create a hot topic for those who are wielding this chip to ask for advice and also give guidance.

This may also prove useful for those not using their Wildcard to get an indication of the popular players being drafted in for the coming weeks.

Disable and I will be revealing our wildcards so far on this week's Scoutcast - with both of us seriously considering a Man City attacking treble up among other issues.

      Good luck all those wildcarding.

      David Luiz or Ben Davies?

Same price but fixtures are surely in favor of the Brazilian and if Kante is injured long term then it is very possible that he will become OOP.

I see no love for David in these forums and frankly I am very disappointed.

Luiz and Silva. Silva much more involved than Sterling. Goals are surely like to come soon for him.

Luiz and and Azpi won't be too far apart in points.

Not true. Silva has been involved in 6 goals, Sterling 5. Also Silva lack of shots would suggest that goals are unlikely to come for him

Azpi is a bonus pts magnet with heaps of assist potential.

And sterling and Azpi is just a more fun partnership to own

Like it a lot. Although I think spend your 0.2m on Otamendi over Stones for security of starts and bonus potential. Also I am not sure spending 5m on Forster is a good investment, you can save the 1m (or 0.5m if you are set on a second keeper) and avoid the southampton double up.

      Ward Azpi Jones Bavies Walker
      Coutinho Martial Doucoure RLC Carroll
      Kane Vardy Jesus

Tempted to swap Coutinho for Silva, which gives me enough to do Jesus > Aguero. Will usually be playing a 5-2-3 if I stick with that team or similar.

I have coutinho currently too - but think a City fella may be better next two - tough games for the Brazilian - plus that long haul flight.

But doesn't that mean you will have to do one of the city mids to a Liv mid in GW10 (if you want one) and have to do another transfer to fund that move? Coutinho risen already so maybe better to keep him and not spend 2 transfers later on?

Or stick with the city boys against woeful WBA. Gives me flexibility.

I don't hink you need to tear your team apart for any of the first four. Hazard though is a big commitment - for that price I'd want to be captaining him when Kane has a bad fixture - I'm not sure Eden is in that category yet this season.

Currently on this 523 formation. Aiming for a big jump in next 3 weeks, then consildate a bit on the defs and mids.

      De Gea, Elliot
      Azpi, Alonso, Bavies, Monreal, Mee
      Sterling, Silva, Fellaini, 4.5, 4.5
      Jesus, Kane, Vardy.

      Thoughts?

I like that. I previously had Monreal in my team, but with the news that Koscielny has a knock and Mustafi has knack I'm even more wary than before about Arsenal defence

Please can I get any comments on my wildcard draft?

      Pope // Elliot

      Davies // Jones // Simpson // Fernandez // Mbemba

      Hazard // Coutinho // Sterling // Fellaini // King

      Kane // Jesus // Vardy

*Defence*: Simpson and Fernandez rotate well for the third spot.
*Midfield*: Hazard is a big risk but there's nowhere else I want to spend the money. Would prefer Salah over Coutinho but it's not affordable. I know Fellaini is injured but it looks like he'll only miss one PL game.
      *Strikers*: Speaks for itself.

The question marks are in midfield as a result of trying to squeeze in Hazard, which is a risk.

Any thoughts or comments? What would you change? Cheers.

I wildcarded last year to get Sanchez in - it was a disaster.

Be careful of making too many sacrifices for one expensive player like Hazard.

frontline looks good but I get the sense that if you swapped Hazard for a cheaper player that you could improve a number of other positions - especially in defence.

Eg Azpil or Alonso - far cheaper than Hazard and could easily match/outscore him.

What do you think of this WC team?

      Fabianski Elliot
      Luiz Davies Stones Jones Mee
      Coutinho D.Silva Choupo-Moting Fellaini Carroll
      Kane Lukaku Vardy

Obviously Fellaini will have to go.

Thinking of doing Fellaini -> Richarlison and Lukaku -> Jesus (waiting for Jesus to come back uninjured from Brazil).

      Ok let me have it.

      Pope Elliot
      Davies Stones Jones Holding Ward
      Salah Silva C-Moting RLC King
      Kane Kaku Jesus

I like the flexible structure with the idea that Holding should be nailed with the Mustafi news.

      Davies - Jones - Cedric - Mee - Long

Loving the WCs that make it difficult to bring back Lukaku or Aguero without a funds driven double transfer, or Lukaku & Morata without a serious bit of surgery .... assuming nothing else goes wrong in the meantime ...

Not if you plan to hold 2FTs prior...

That’s the problem though, there is always that little bit of tinkering that stops you from rolling over a free transfer.

For me the big issue is if the cash has been spread and all used up, a player drops in price and then it becomes really difficult to get the likes of Lukaku, Aguero etc. back.

I currently have a very generic looking WC team but feel like I want to change that. I'm thinking of fitting hazard in because he's getting his fitness back and good form in the international week. Also against Palace what better platform to get back to scoring ways! It would be
      Hart Elliot
      Stones Luiz Mee Wimmer Clark
      Hazard Eriksen Sterling Chupo Carrol
      Joselu Kane Jesus
      Any thoughts?

      Looking at the following transfers:
      Walker/Carrol --> Daniels/Richarlison GW10
      Monreal/Jesus --> Wimmer/Lukaku GW12

      Gross, Brady, Coutinho, Mkhi, Sterling
      Jesus, Morata, Joselu
3.1m itb - to get Aguero back and to put in Lukaku for Morata til he's back.

      Also considering:

Something a bit different to the norm: a solid defence and though no attacking double/triple-ups, instead (arguably) the most explosive player from the top teams!

      KANE/LUKAKU/JESUS
      COUTINHO/HAZARD/Choupo-Moting (Can, A. King)

      Fab, Elliot
      Cedric, Davies, Mee, Maguire, Mbemba
      Silva/Sterling - Coutinho/Salah - ChoupMouting - Doucoure - Carrol
      Kane - Jesus - Lukaku

      Considering switching
      Silva-Sterling and Doucoure-Ricarlison

Or do Vardy/Batsch instead of Lukaku/Jesus and do Sterling instead of Doucoure but not sure. I kind of like my strong 3 heavy hitter front line 🙂

Defence with great attacking potential. Joselu just needs to start banging em' in, there could be great value. Rather Eriksen over Alli. Fabianski good baps but in terms of fixtures there are better rotation pairs.

Current draft, maybe a bit inflexible because of Hazard. But those upcoming fixtures looking just too tasty and already transferred Eriksen out, so I think I'm committed. Feedback appreciated!

      Gomes, Elliot
      Azpi Davies Stones Ward Mbemba
      Hazard Sterling Shaqiri RLC Carroll
      Kane Jesus Vardy

      0.2 itb

GK's: very good rotation pair until January with both teams in reasonable defensive form

Defence: Mbemba is the slight risk here, he should be in favour starting over Manquillo and offers good rotation alternative with Ward.

Mid: Shaqiri on pens, FK's and corners with strong fixtures to come, played #10 role last game. Could become CM for funds to upgrade Mbemba.

£2m ITB, ideally for Vardy > Morata when he returns.

Only problem I'm thinking is the keepers...if Elliott is sent off or injured I'm screwed. Should I do Silva > Sterling and use the 0.5m saving to do Krul > Ryan for the perfect rotation?

I don't this Wildmonkey can be beaten:

      Popeski

      Mbemba, Otamendi, Bavies, Cedric, Ward.

      Coutinho, Eriksen, TC, Richarlison, Fellaini

      Vardy, Kane and Jesus.

      The thinking:

Great gk rot with lots of save points
Good D with fixtures and decent value.
Looking to play 433 so only need Eriksen, Coutinho and Richarlison. Fellaini is terrific value and may as well hold if he is back next week.
The Front 3: Jesus provides CTY cover.
Avoiding CTY milfs: Silva (no goal threat, Peprot and assists will not continue) and Sterling (Peprot/gametime issues).
Avoiding CHS Ds (too expensive when there is better value elsewhere just as likely to pick up cs/bps/attacking returns).

      The Plan:

      Jesus becomes Morata.

      Oh yeah baby.

      Stones, Jones, Holding, Ward
      Eriksen, Sterling, Coutinho

Stones - I considered him but I am concerned Bad K will take his place rather than Otamendi's when he returns.
        No Bavies? 😯
I can see that it allows you Sterling though so I guess you can not argue with that logic. My only issue with Sterling is gametime minutes and for me, that is too offputting.
Why the lesser-spotted Honeymonster - can you find 0.1 to buy Mbemba?

      Fab Elliott
      Azpi Stones Bavies Cedric Wimmer
      Sterling Richarlison Choupo Groß Surman

Thoughts? I know the midfield is crazily light, but I don't see any star performers in the sub-Hazard price range. If rather spend the money on defence and attack.

Lads, kind of irrelevant. But do any of you know what the current situation with TV broadcast is regarding the Premier league. We usually here get the 10 matches live however they have informed us that they will only broadcasts one fixture live for the 3 PM kick off and I believe it is the Manchester city game. Is there a problem occurring that I am unaware of?

Scout Pick Community Champion Lottery – Gameweek 8

Once again we are on the look out for a champion to represent the community to take on the Scout Picks and win the chance of a prize.

If you want to take part please email your FFS name and FPL ID number to community@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk .

The champion will then be selected at random shortly after the deadline of 8:30am Wednesday and then be asked to submit their XI by Friday 12noon by emailing me at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

We only need 11 picks and please be mindful of the 83m budget. There’s no captain in the picks either and please stick to a designated FPL formation, including no more than three players from one team. No captain or chips will be applied.

At the end of the season the champion who beats the picks by the highest margin will win a £100 Amazon voucher.

The champion will be revealed in a midweek Scout Squad article, which will outline our initial thinking around the picks. Our and the champions picks will be revealed as usual in the Scout Picks article.

Should the community “Champion” fail to provide an initial or final Scout Pick selection, then an “Assistant Manager” chosen by us, will gain control of the selection to represent the community for the Gameweek in question.

I would keep Ramsey for now. It's arisk to use FTs/points to remove him when he (and Vardy) has good fixtures. Presumably you hoped he would do well during this period when you bought him. I don't think we can say he's much less likely to do well at this point than we could say with the information we had a few weeks ago.

If Lukaku didn't miss the pen vs Leicester he'd have scored in every game and no one would consider getting rid. Can't believe the amount of people ditching him

Get rid surplus to requirements. Not what he has done bit what he is going to do

I made the mistake and ditched him before the Everton game thinking Everton would do a good job defensively. It was going well until he got an assist and a goal. I got him back in and not looking to ditch again

Money can be used elsewhere to improve the team and having him and Kane is too detrimental.

United have hard games coming up and he isn't exactly getting big hauls. Morata was saving us nearly 1.4 and averaging the same score. I'm happy going for Jesus over Lukaku until Morata is fit.

I can't help but feel that even if Utd only score one, it will likely be him.

But he did and it was a bad pen. Meaning he's off pens. What if they had actually played anyone decent, maybe he would already be out of most teams. I'm holding but I can see why people selling. Can't play on what ifs pal

Ali was the player who was fouled in the box so that Kane got the penalty win .

What's the best defensive combo from Chelsea and City?

Both have amazing fixtures over the coming months and coverage is surely needed?

    A) 12.0 gets you Courtois and Walker
    B) 12.5 gets you Ederson and Alonso
    C) 11.4 gets you Ederson and David Luiz

City's defence is hard to call as Kompany's return could mean a reshuffle and Danilo isn't nailed at LB. Whereas Chelsea have so many options you feel rotation is pending.

Don't see any bonus point or attacking return potential in C, so A or B really.

Luiz and Otamendi for 11.6 - 2 goal and 1 assist between them. Both have easy fixtures coming up.

I'm thinking the same , already have Silva and Jesus which is the only thing putting me off. Eggs in one basket

Huddersfield away next week is better for United than Burnley for City, Burnley have been strong away.

Salah to Sterling would be better and then Mkhi to Salah/Coutinho around GW10.

    Conditions:
    1. I have a team created on GW1, let say "Team1".
    2. "League7" is a league scoring started in GW7.

    Questions:
    1. Hows the Team1 point if join the League7 now? is it GW7 point only? GW1-GW7 calculated? or doesn't get the point at all?
    2. If gets point, when Team1 point calculated on League7?

    Sorry if it's confusing, lol.

Any thoughts on this WC? Think I'm close...

    Courtois
    Mee | Davies | Otamendi | Jones
    Coutinho | Sterling | Brady
    Kane | Lukaku | Jesus

Sub Elliot | Dier | Carrol | Hunemier

    Cheers.
Can't bring myself to part with the big Belgian to free up funds...

Midfield looks a little thin in my opinion. If I'm playing only 3 in midfield, I would at least get 3 solid ones.

consider Jones out for Ward or Leshalles (as you have a burn def)...frees up a few pennies...keep mid this week but get rid of Ali next and down grade to Courtino, also consider Morata/ Jesus from GW9 (lets see if he is fit) for Lukaku...then up to you but your have funds to move around. In the medium term you need rid of Atsu (assuming your benching him ATT) try Gros or Chom Moto.
