Wisdom of the Crowd – Gameweek 9

Each week we are reviewing the aggregated predictions on Superbru’s Premier League Predictor game, using the collective Wisdom of the Crowd predictions to guide our fantasy football thinking.

Please join the FFS league here and add your own predictions to the data – the more there are, the more accurate the crowd should be (in theory).

GAMEWEEK 8 REVIEW

Chelsea were involved in another major upset at the weekend, with the previously goalless and pointless Crystal Palace beating them 2-1.  Only 1% on Superbru picked that result, which ranks alongside Chelsea’s opening round defeat to Burnley.

With two huge upsets in just eight weeks, and defeats in their last two matches, Chelsea’s unpredictability suggests we need to be slightly wary of investing too heavily in their premium-priced players.

Here are the Gameweek 8 results in descending order of predictability:

Well done to Darragh Gilhawley from Ireland for winning the Yellow Cap in the FFS pool, and climbing 71 places to 63rd.  Mr Crowd Wisdom – using the aggregated predictions of the crowd – had a great round and climbed 50 places to 51st out of 397 players.

The aggregated predictions of the community are making better predictions than most individual players in the game, suggesting that there is credibility in the Wisdom of the Crowd concept.

GAMEWEEK 9 PREVIEW

Here is the Expected Goals chart for each fixture in GW9:

And here is the ranking of teams in order of Expected Goals Scored and Conceded:

Given the events of recent weeks, it’s no surprise to see Manchester City comfortably at the top of the table, with the crowd predicting an average of 3.36 goals.  Man United are also expected to do well at Huddersfield, which may be slightly concerning for those of us that have moved Romelu Lukaku on from our squads.

It’s the United defence expected to be the tightest, with City also expected to keep a clean sheet.  Stoke, Newcastle and Southampton are the lower-priced teams to back in defence, according to the crowd predictions.

Here are the aggregated predictions that we’ll enter into the game for Mr Crowd Wisdom in the FFS pool.

Is there anything else that catches your eye in these crowd predictions?

Don’t forget to join the FFS league on Superbru and make your predictions each week so that they are included in these data – the more knowledgeable people there are, the more accurate they should be in theory.

thanks for posting. Will be a brave FPL manager to go without City attackers this week on current form.

Given our group think on here, we'll all have 2-3 and it'll be a nil nil!

Stubborn manager here. Pep has burned me enough times this season alone.

I think the bigger question is do we trust captaining them.

For me, Sterling looks a great option, but Kane is lingering in the background. Not sure I trust Jesus will get more than 60, and Silva isn't explosive.

      Sterling.. Kane.. Sterling.. Kane.. Sterling..
