Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Aguero Goes Big

A four-goal blast and the season’s top Gameweek score from Sergio Aguero lights up Man City’s 5-1 win over Leicester City, bringing joy and anguish to Fantasy managers far and wide.

What a difference a week makes.

Some 16.59% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers – close to a million overall – captained Sergio Aguero to a dispiriting two-point haul at Burnley last Saturday.

It was a decision compounded by Mohamed Salah’s double and 15 points the next day against Spurs.

Only 13.14% had handed the armband to the Egyptian, and it was clear that they weren’t going to make the same mistake when today’s deadline came around.

Salah is this Gameweek’s most-captained player, with 1,265,000+ (22.06%) hoping for big things from tomorrow’s trip to Southampton.

Some will have doubtless transferred their allegiance from Aguero, who was captained by 778,000 (13.56%) managers ahead of today’s outing.

Keeping faith in the City striker produced a season-best 21-point haul as he fired a second hat-trick in four Gameweeks – and his third of the season – in the demolition of the Foxes.

Salah is outstanding, but he’ll do well to get anywhere close to Aguero’s tally, which could be hugely significant for many overall rankings and mini-leagues.

Aguero has now scored nine goals in six Gameweeks and has 11 from his last five home matches.

Those home comforts are extreme – he’s scored 66 points in his last five matches at the Etihad Stadium, with a mere 16 from his previous five away fixtures.

Aguero is now up to 7.3 points per match, second only to that man Salah among outfield players, although his biggest haul arrives just as we’re forced to re-assess City’s assets.

Guardiola’s men now play three times before they resume Gameweek action – in Basel, at Wigan in the FA Cup and against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final.

That not only offers the risk of injury and suspension, but there’s also the added scenario where if Wigan take City to a replay – not out of the question if Guardiola fields a second string XI – then the Gameweek 28 fixture with Arsenal will be postponed.

Aguero is already attracting big interest in the FPL market – he is second for transfers in currently – but, in truth, investing now is a risk.

The reality could be that his window may have passed as Guardiola indicated in Friday’s press conference that Gabriel Jesus might only be ten days from a return.

Certainly, having been pushed into six successive 90 minutes since Jesus’ injury at Crystal Palace, we can expect some rest for Aguero once the Brazilian returns. A rotation policy will likely resume, particularly if Aguero is seen as the favoured option for European ties.

De Bruyne & Sterling chip in

While Aguero dominated, the efforts of City’s key midfield assets should not be overlooked.

Raheem Sterling was the fourth most sold player ahead of the Gameweek, with 105,000+ managers moving him out.

He punished the doubters with a goal and has now produced a goal or an assist in eight of his last 10 starts.

Kevin De Bruyne, meanwhile, provided a hat-trick of assists, moving him to 16 for the season, which is four more than any other player.

He has 45 points from his last five home matches and his 13 points today was his eighth double-figure haul of the season, six of which have come at the Etihad.

The Belgian has managed just one goal across the last nine Gameweeks, but eight assists over that spell is a decidedly pleasant second prize for his 22.9% ownership.

The only dampener on the day was City’s defence, which continues to falter.

With just one clean sheet from their last six Gameweeks now, Nicolas Otamendi – the top owned defender in the game (31.3%) – is looking increasingly vulnerable.

His plight is not helped by the fact that he started his 15th successive match in all competitions today, with a rest surely beckoning soon.

Otamendi was sold by 50,000 this week, and those sales will likely pick up now the fixtures are stiffening, with Arsenal and Chelsea up next for Guardiola’s men.

Four in four for Vardy

Leicester briefly threatened to make a match of it when Jamie Vardy scored for the fourth successive Gameweek – the first time he’s managed that since his record 11-in-a-row spree from the Foxes’ title-winning year.

And Riyad Mahrez finally made an appearance following his transfer window shenanigans, starting on the bench before coming on after 61 minutes.

The Algerian has lost 469,000 owners since his non-transfer tantrum, but Leicester’s schedule is strong enough for him to start rebuilding bridges promptly.

The Foxes play only two of the top six over the remaining 11 matches, although they will miss Gameweek 31 if they can see off Sheffield United in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

It seems the euphoria of the 4 goals is blinding most from seeing that 2 of Aguero's goals were gifted to him by an awful Schmeichel.

Non Aguero owner here and It hurts that his haul turned a big green arrow for me by HT into a small red one but I don't regret not having him as I've held with KDB and Sterling as my city cover for a long time and they have served me very well.

As a matter of fact yes. Especially with Salah as it will further confirm he is untouchable. With Aguero you can still have a good case for going without and still doing well.

I have Kdb and sterling too. Kdb 13 pts means only 8 less than aguero. The killer will be the people who captnd aguero. It all depends on what happens today. If Salah gets a goal and assist and 26 pts as my captn aguero haul will be quickly forgotten. Schmeichel at fault for at least 2 of the goals. If Kane had been facing an off form cech may have had the same outcome. Still think Kane will outscore aguero in the coming weeks. Jesus back soon and man city have a mountain of fixtures

I mostly agree with Granville. All these weak-minded individuals who can't make their own decisions. It is one thing looking at stats etc. and listening to viewpoints, but so many come on here with RMTs/selection questions and then blame another poster or the Scoutcast team for a wrong decision after the event.

There are a large number of players who basically just follow what the Scoutcast say - that isn't Granville or any of the Scoutcast team's fault - that it just weak mindedness from individuals who can't take responsibility for their own decisions.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Gameweek 27 lessons learned so far

    Kanexit 2 a success

This was the final round in the second Kanexit move, before spurs fixtures ease and City’s get more complicated.

The results are in and kanexit 2 is hereby declared a resounding victory for the leave campaign. When it comes to explosivity Aguero trumped Kane spectacularly with four goals against Leicester.

Now leavers have to decide whether they spend their gwk 28 transfer on getting kane back or not.

    Everton’s Gwk 31 Options Change

The consensus has been to get Walcott in for Everton’s good fixtures and their guaranteed Gwk 31 fixture. But is Sigurdsson the better option.

At the back Everton continue to be a no go zone, unable to keep clean sheets.

While up top Niasse may well be a viable cheap third striker again after starting and impressing.

    Shaqiri the stats fan’s dream

Many of us here use underlying stats to try and predict future form. Sometimes the returns never arrive. But sometimes they do with a player like Shaqiri. After posting strong shots and chances created stats he has now scored in back to back games. It certainly pays to keep an eye on the stats before getting a player in.

Feel free to comment on these and tell us what lessons you’ve learned from the Gameweek so far.

As a kun and Kane owner I wonder if now is time to say thanks to kun and sell him for firmino.?

Jesus may be back by next league game and don't want the constant rotation worry with kun...

City also have a tough stretch of fixtures now while Liverpool look much easier....

With kun, I think it is all about the timing - knowing when to buy and when to sell....

I took Shaqiri out as he blanked at home and have regretted it ever since. Learnt Kdb sensational as assist king and arguably as vital as aguero. Learnt form and fixtures so inportant. Aguero had the fixtures and is clearly loving being the main man again. My back 3 of ota, jones and alonso will have to be broken up as fixtures awful now. Glad I have 2 free transfers. Will not make any moves till just before next gw. Could be lots of injuries with the amount of games. Hoping Ibe Wilson Arnold salah (C) and firminho can shoot me back up the ranks today

      Lessons so far:

. Arnie looks an option again regardless of fixtures
. Soon time to shift Son out due to mix of Lamela, Champs league, and potentially Moura
. Trust Niasse, at least for decent home fixtures, and not leave him on the bench
      . Shaqiri isn't 1st choice penalty taker 🙁
. Swansea a good option for budget defenders
      .

Dont criticise the Scoutcast broadcast 😀

Can I just stress I never have(!) but got the popcorn out last night to watch Granville getting all sniffy about some comments.

Anyway, lesson learnt is be a master of your own decisions and dont baaa as you follow the crowd ie I got Kun in as soon as Jesus got injured even though that wasnt eh consensus view.

    15. Freddo
      • 6 Years
      6 years, 2 months ago

Bit premature to label Kane exit a success until you see what Salah does later.

In the two weeks previous to this, had you kept Kane you would have more likely captained Salah with the crowd and had an extra 8 points and an extra 15 points (so 23 extra points for keeping Kane) Aguero helped level that out yesterday but if Salah runs riot today, it swings back the other way.

It was never a simple Kane V Aguero, you had to factor in the C, those who brought Aguero in got 12 and 4 points as C in those two weeks as that's why they brought him in, those with Kane got 2 + 4 from Kane plus a further 8 and 15 that they would have had from Salah's extra C points.

Lesson learned this week, don't let Granville post if he's had a light ale, makes a right tit of himself.

-Burnley defense is not as reliabl as it once was
-Everton are nowhere near whipping boys. They have quality in their squad and a good manager so they will prevail.
-KDB is da man! We should captain him more at home. If it wasn't for flappy Schmeichel, we would be talking only about him instead of Aguero.

Did Kane -> Aguero before Aguero played Newcastle and Kanexit became a consideration here after Kun’s hat trick so more that just a success for me
But people here were called crazy for ditching Kane for Kun even when considering the fact that Jesus was out and Kun had great home form and impressive PPG for the season as well
      Last 4 GWs
      Kun: 46
      Kane: 20
And this is while ignoring the captaincy
Biggest Lesson Learned: Things should not be stated as hard and fast or crazy when the decision has logic behind it
For e.g, even if Alonso turns up and hauls against West Brom, there can be a strong case to get rid as fixtures turn and Chelsea have a tough run of games
The same for switching back to Kane and losing Kun regardless of him scoring 4 goals

Just did otamendi to mee cause of the fixture swing both ways.... My initial plan was only to do Aguero to Kane with the FT.... So essentially I did Ota to Mee for -4....
Keeping GW31 in mind, I want to use the next 3 FTs for players for 31.....
Because of the above, I feel it was better to do the transfer this week rather than next week for free as i would have been anyway taking an extra -4 for 31.... Is this the right way to look at the transfer? I keep hearing a defender isn't worth -4 but can't seem to understand why it isn't in this case...
Could you help me understand in case I'm wrong... Thanks

Its hard to get rid of a player after scoring 4 goals but firmino and vardy have the fixtures and the money could be used elsewhere.
