The Stock Check – Gameweek 1 – Monday

Chelsea’s stars of 2014/15 rise to the occasion at Stamford Bridge as both Diego Costa and Eden Hazard deliver goals to earn Antonio Conte a victory in his first Premier League outing. Here’s the final Stock Check of Gameweek 1.

On the Rise

Eden Hazard
The Belgian’s spot-kick was hugely significant, not least because it saw Hazard deliver in Gameweek 1, but also because it appears to confirm him as Chelsea’s designated penalty taker. That’s something of a puzzle given that Oscar took one in pre-season with Hazard on the pitch. Now with penalties secured, Hazard’s stock, like that of Riyad Mahrez, has enjoyed a major boost.

Diego Costa
Owned by just 7% of FPL managers, Costa’s fine winning strike rolled us back to the 2014/15 campaign and offered a reminder of his clinical finishing ability. His future at Chelsea is far from assured but if he can hint at returning to his debut season strike rate, he may yet enter our thinking. However, an early booking and a reckless challenge on Adrian also demonstrated just why we have to show extreme caution.

Cesar Azpilicueta
The Spanish full-back has significantly improved his attacking game and is now offering just as much from the left as Branislav Ivanovic on the right. Unlike the Serb, Azpilicueta’s starting role has rarely come under question and with no rival for his position, he continues to stand out as the key option in Antonio Conte’s defence. Tonight’s assist and bonus only underlined that further.

James Collins
Slaven Bilic opted for the Welsh warhorse over Angelo Ogbonna, potentially unlocking a 4.5 option in West Ham’s backline. That already brought Collins to our attention, even before his dramatic blast from a West Ham corner. A start against AFC Bournemouth should be guaranteed but it remains if he can hold off Ogbonna in the long-term.

In Decline

Andre Ayew
The Ghanaian’s West Ham bow lasted just 34 minutes before he gave way with a thigh problem. That was a blow to his 9.5% ownership who must now wait anxiously to see if he can recover for Sunday’s potentially profitable meeting with the Bournemouth defence. With Payet a likely starter, Bilic won’t need to take a risk with his new signing.

Michail Antonio
Charged with containing Hazard, he was always in for a testing evening. Seemingly consigned to a right-back role with Bilic collecting options on the flanks, Antonio was hooked shortly after conceding the early second-half penalty. His start against AFC Bournemouth could be in doubt – his fragility against top class opponents certainly isn’t, nor is his reluctance to continue as a full-back.

Sofiane Feghouli
The 5.5 midfield option is another in the West Ham treatment room. He missed tonight’s encounter with a hamstring problem which materialised in training according to Bilic.

Oscar
We thought he was on spot-kicks, clearly he is not. That’s a major dent to his appeal and with Cesc Fabregas breathing down his neck, the Brazilian’s owners will rarely be able to rest easy.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Best start ever with a 98k GW rank, over the moon!

Play Fuchs (ARS) or Friend (sun) along with Amat and Valencia

I would go with Friend, personally I have Morgan but I will go with Amat. Arsenal will receive goals but most likely score too.

Hard to pay 5.5 if you don't play them. He has plenty of attacking threat but hard to expect a CS.

I would go with Friend, Arsenal are lacking stability at the back and no confidence they will win, but they always seem to score against Leicester, even when they had Kante as a guard dog for their defence.

    Alli Firmino Hazard Tadic Feghouli

I need four of them playing next week. Feghouli looks like he's out with a hamstring injury and Tadic plays Manchester United.

How do you suggest I fix this with no hits and 1m ITB? Thinking of getting Snodgrass but I'll also be playing Amat if I do.

            Such rubbish.

Ibra scored a goal bottom corner that no keeper would have saved and also had a wicked free kick parried away by Boruc. On top of this he could of easily had two or three assists on a better day.

Sick of people giving other members inaccurate information based on club bias rather than what actually happened.

If you hate Ibra or MU then that's fair enough, but if someone is asking for an honest appraisal for fpl purposes please be unbiased and honest or don't comment at all. It's not fair on them.

Vardy was also unlucky not to come away with more points and regularly got into the right positions but his finishing let him down. On a better day he could have easily scored a brace at the very least. He will get just as many chances against Arsenal's struggling defence and should get more space to work with as Arsenal play a higher defensive line.

We don't know. Make your transfer if you want Coutinho.

Ok...do I keep Mkhitaryan, or sell him for Lamela/Firmino -4. I still believe Mou will start him against Southampton, and that his price might not fall before Friday, but he doesn't start it will be awful. On the other hand there is no team with an easier-looking game than United this week, except maybe Pool, where, however, everyone is on fire and I don't like Coutinho. And Spurs were terrible on Saturday. So, thoughts?

Keep him, good chance he'll play Friday and too early for a hit

I got a similar dilemma with lindgard who may not play but not worth taking hit for when he could comes out as a regular.

Thanks, guys! I wouldn't recommend Lingard, though, under Mou he will never be more than a regular sub, this team is too crowded with stars.

Ye you're probably right Globus - it's just whether I keep him for this gameweek on the off chance he impresses.

Hi guys advice needed on an optimum transfer please:

          Heaton (LIV)
Stones (stk) Valencia (SOU) Azpul (wat)
Hazard (wat) Redmond (mun) Firmino (bur) Lindgard (SOU)
Kun (sto) Rooney (SOU) OKozaki (ars)

Subs: Forster (mun) Target (mun) Albrighton (ARS) Morgan (ARS)

First 11 has a few rotation risks namely lindgard & okazaki. Options are:
          a) Albrighton -> a 6.0. Bolasi?
          b) Target -> 5.0 .Williams?
          C) Worth a double swap?

As you can tell I want in on Everton πŸ˜‰

Seems abit premature to go all in on one club - maybe better to spread your bets even if Chelsea fixtures look nice...

Vardy will outscore him especially with Costa sitting in the stands serving all his bans

Nothing wrong with Costa if you have him, however if you want him now, you will be kicking away somebody better and less annoying. So...don't do it πŸ™‚

Card magnet and more likely to get a yellow than a bonus point.

Costa will score goals but will rarely do much else besides cause trouble.

            Much better options about.
