The Stock Check – Gameweek 1 – Monday

Chelsea’s stars of 2014/15 rise to the occasion at Stamford Bridge as both Diego Costa and Eden Hazard deliver goals to earn Antonio Conte a victory in his first Premier League outing. Here’s the final Stock Check of Gameweek 1.

On the Rise

Eden Hazard
The Belgian’s spot-kick was hugely significant, not least because it saw Hazard deliver in Gameweek 1, but also because it appears to confirm him as Chelsea’s designated penalty taker. That’s something of a puzzle given that Oscar took one in pre-season with Hazard on the pitch. Now with penalties secured, Hazard’s stock, like that of Riyad Mahrez, has enjoyed a major boost.

Diego Costa
Owned by just 7% of FPL managers, Costa’s fine winning strike rolled us back to the 2014/15 campaign and offered a reminder of his clinical finishing ability. His future at Chelsea is far from assured but if he can hint at returning to his debut season strike rate, he may yet enter our thinking. However, an early booking and a reckless challenge on Adrian also demonstrated just why we have to show extreme caution.

Cesar Azpilicueta
The Spanish full-back has significantly improved his attacking game and is now offering just as much from the left as Branislav Ivanovic on the right. Unlike the Serb, Azpilicueta’s starting role has rarely come under question and with no rival for his position, he continues to stand out as the key option in Antonio Conte’s defence. Tonight’s assist and bonus only underlined that further.

James Collins
Slaven Bilic opted for the Welsh warhorse over Angelo Ogbonna, potentially unlocking a 4.5 option in West Ham’s backline. That already brought Collins to our attention, even before his dramatic blast from a West Ham corner. A start against AFC Bournemouth should be guaranteed but it remains if he can hold off Ogbonna in the long-term.

In Decline

Andre Ayew
The Ghanaian’s West Ham bow lasted just 34 minutes before he gave way with a thigh problem. That was a blow to his 9.5% ownership who must now wait anxiously to see if he can recover for Sunday’s potentially profitable meeting with the Bournemouth defence. With Payet a likely starter, Bilic won’t need to take a risk with his new signing.

Michail Antonio
Charged with containing Hazard, he was always in for a testing evening. Seemingly consigned to a right-back role with Bilic collecting options on the flanks, Antonio was hooked shortly after conceding the early second-half penalty. His start against AFC Bournemouth could be in doubt – his fragility against top class opponents certainly isn’t, nor is his reluctance to continue as a full-back.

Sofiane Feghouli
The 5.5 midfield option is another in the West Ham treatment room. He missed tonight’s encounter with a hamstring problem which materialised in training according to Bilic.

Oscar
We thought he was on spot-kicks, clearly he is not. That’s a major dent to his appeal and with Cesc Fabregas breathing down his neck, the Brazilian’s owners will rarely be able to rest easy.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Anyone ditching Vardy? Not on pens and Leicester looked awful. Also think Arsenal will tighten up next game (Wenger will get the hairdryer out).

Who could I replace Vardy with? 10.5mil to spend..

Leicester looked okay going forward. But that may be down to Hull making so many errors.

Vardy not on pens (and missing those chances) has led me to drop him. Got in Ibra.

In your situation I'd probably hold on to him and free up funds for Ibra this week, or just plump for Rooney or Costa

Teams were aware of Leicester's game plan last season as well. It wasn't hard to work out, lol.

Knowing an opponents game plan is one thing whilst stopping it is another.

I doubt Arsenal's backline will drop deep like madman as soon as they lose the ball like Hull did. Vardy had literally no room to work with. Wenger is too stubborn to apply tactics.

To those that play the Sky game, can you transfer a player mid GW and get both their points?

So if I had Vardy, could I let him play Saturday get his points and then transfer him to Payet on the Sunday?

So this GW will be the real first Kun VS Ibra capitaincy debate..

Waiting for City's midweek's game first but still a few things to start discussing imo. Ibra VS Fonte and Van Dijk (both 1.88 and 1.93 vs 1.95 Ibra) but overall a favourable fixture for MUFC VS Aguero at Stoke who alwaus are very tight at home. But Aguero still has great records at brittania..

    headache ahead..

I'm edging towards Ibra should it be confirmed that Yoshida starts at CB for Saints. Fonte should be back, however.

Mane the flair pick, firmino the steady accruer for me

Vardy is a tough one right now.

Being off pens isn't good. He can certainly score, but I don't think Arsenal will be quite as gash at the back again and may shore up and play a bit more boring away. Not to mention Leicester didn't look convincing at all against promoted Hull?

With Kun and Ibrah in my team, Vardy looking mighty expensive considering cheaper options that can deliver goals.

I had him for Cyrstal Palace and just seen yesterday he signed - keep him in? Surely the spark in attacking options for sluggish everton side?

I find it interesting that Ibra's goal against Bournemouth was widely regarded as lucky and should have been saved by Boruc, whilst the similar goal from Costa against WH gets no mention? Lol.

I wonder why that is? 🙂

Have 1 m in the bank. Which of the following should I choose:

    1) Vardy to Kane
    2) Kingsley to Williams
    3) Townsend to Lamela
    4) Save the FT

I dont have any Spurs attacking or Everton defensive cover.

    Thanks!

4 or 2. Only do 2 if you need to, you should have 4 other decent defenders

Number 1 isn't a terrible idea if you can do it on a free.

I've said it previously that I think Kane is the strongest captain option this gw despite his last match. I'm a little concerned about not having him as he is class and CP...... well they're not very good now are they? Lol.

Help me out please. I've had a poor start with 38points. Ayew is injured and Watson Suspended

Who Can I replace Ayew with (I have no extra money ITB)

    A/ Lamela (I have Erkisen)
    B/ Redmond (I have Tadic)
    C/ Siggy
    D/ Barkley

I am leading towards Barkley - is this the correct choice?

    Cheers

I reckon you will be fine with Eriksen and Tadic. I would go with Barkley due to fixtures
