    Good morning folks.
I would think a very up and down 2 weeks this GW?

Was always going to hinge on the captaincy wasn't it? Palmer captainers feeling very smug, Saka captainers probably knew the writing was on the wall after last weekend when Palmer got double digits (just). Alvarez or Watkins captainers had a bad first week but probably enjoyed the second courtesy of Saka's no show. Gambles on de Bruyne and Toney were rewarded for those who took them, probably including Toney. I took a punt on Solanke, I think Liverpool will get turned over today with all those key absentees.

Maybe I should cover the above with a little narrative:
Arsenal: Selling Gabriel for the " safe" Saliba was a safety issue being affected by EO. And now with possible injury?
Fuming having tried for 4 GW's to move Martinelli. Very low for 80; on a high in the last 10. Do I move on Him or Saka which was another EO decision. I never do it normally.
Dependent on today; what to do with Bowen? Like Marti and Saka, they will have to go for TAA, Salah, Maddi, Haaland fairly quickly.
Then the question of Livra who could soon get his place back, Taylor who is a dodgy placeholder?
Sunday with a hangover makes the thought process muddled.

Arsenal is a minefield; rather than Gabriel it could’ve been White, Zinny or Saliba of the defence who got points and any of the forwards (including Rice and Jorghino it seems). Saka stays for next match I think (Forest looks juicy); but Salah or someone like KDB is waiting to take his place.

Bowen and West Ham seem to have dropped off a cliff but surely there’s no reason they can’t get back, particularly with Kudus returning. Too early to start planning his move.

Anyway, my mind is clearly focused on project Trippier Replacement

I think we are all talking the same way, I would not consider a move just yet but I hate the GW gaps allowing it to fester.
Decisions will be made based on availability; in both directions. Adding to the mix are all Spurs and Chelsea players who will impact GW26 probably.

Agreed. Yes it’s frustrating not be able to make anticipated moves from week to week. I admire people who can just put the game down between matches.

Good point about Spurs and Chelsea. Richarlison might need to go; I can’t see getting rid of Porro and Palmer.

      Agree

Personally felt should be a break all together (example yesterday Arsenal had 12 days break whilst Palace now),
I don't get the reason why the Premier League split the winter break

        Simple really; GREED
Let us ban Toney! But we must force gambling down the necks of people. Wrong remedy.
2 Week break for all! Sort of.
Let us support club sustainability. Certainly did it with Chelsea and City (NOT!). Chose Everton and NFO instead. Helps NFO and Everton?
Let us have financial rules that are so different from normal accounting standards. It will protect the few clubs who went into administration? Too Late.
Oh, and we must make sure it is so difficult to hold onto home grown players.

  3. Insight into Haaland's injury
    Alberto Tomba

Haaland's stress fractured foot - it's been going on a while now, what does that mean?

Most on here thankfully won't have experienced a stress fracture. Resulting from a short career in ski racing, I have a now recurring weakness in my right foot which stresses (don't feel sorry for me, I was a lucky boy!). I also co-own a Podiatry practice (treatment of feet and ankles), although I'm not a practitioner myself.

A stress or stress fracture on the bone, is really hard to quantify in terms of what caused it, and how bad it was at it's peak (albeit I expect Haaland will have had very frequent MRIs so the medical team should have a good 'feel' for it).
Stresses on a foot can be recurring, especially when the person has a job which requires running around and jumping, and that person is a 6"5 unit. He will make a clear, full recovery on his return, which is hopefully sooner rather than later (on a human level, not as an LFC fan).

What will be more slow to recover however is his psyche. On the several occasions where I've had a stressed foot, there's a bit in the back of my mind which is thinking, "did I jump too high / land too hard", "was that my foot I felt again"..
This is the reason why I won't be getting him back in as soon as he's back on the pitch.
He's a titan, but I would exercise caution on his return. As this has now gone on a number of weeks, I expect the stress was either quite a big one, or has been a bit stop-start in terms of recovering but then overdoing it again.
Either way I expect he won't be back to 100% mentally and physically for quite a while. If I whip out a crystal ball, I'm going to say at least three games post his return, and I suspect DGW25 will not result in anything like 180 minutes of gametime, if he is back by then.

Personally, I think he won't get back to the same strength of psyche the rest of this season, but I hope for him I am wrong.

Every opponent will be happy to test his foot for him too given half a chance and that'll test his temper too. Can be a bit combustible when players jibe him.

This is all lovely - but has it not been explicitly stated that he has not had a stress fracture? Making this 'article' as Corgz considers it, wide of the point?

      1. Alberto Tomba
        • 11 Years
        9 months, 14 days ago

Even if Haaland has not had a stress 'fracture', a stress fracture and stress on the bone are very similar in nature.
A break (or to a lesser extent a 'fracture') is more easily diagnosable and measurable than stress on a bone (visible via MRI but still not easily definable).

Anyone thinking Haaland has a well-known or specific injury and will return back to usual at a certain point, are wide of the point i'm making. What I'm saying is there will be a big grey area from a medical (and consequently psychological) perspective on his return, so I'd give him a few weeks before rushing him back in.

I agree with the sentiment about it being a while and not getting him in.

Fair enough. It's the same injury, just a question of severity for title. Personally I've found the more technically 'broken' a bone is, the easier it is to diagnose and treat.

You have to think that he is more susceptible to injuries like this with his massive physique. It's only going to get worse as he gets older.

Agree. My best guess is he'll fully recover (mentally) over the summer, and come back with a bang next season. Not to say he won't perform this season (especially from an FPL perspective), but it'll take him a while to get used to managing any new preventative regimes and exercises and recovery.

Yup as it stands I'll have Palmer, Trent and Porro likely to blank. Want Maddison on top of that but not sure how to navigate gw26

    2. Eze Really?

Porro is a mid/forward in real terms so forget about cleans and play the upside IMO. Maddi is someone I want but I must wait for fixtures. KDB will be a defining decision; especially after reading About Haaland and Alberto's post above.

    3. Nate(U)dog(ie)

Not really. I have none but Romero and VDV are back, Maddison due to return very soon, and Son, Bissouma and Sarr will be back in a few weeks. They're always going to be very attacking so it's hard to expect clean sheets but they'll still pick them up here and there if they keep that back four fit. But the likes of Son, Maddison, Kulu and Richarlison are all great options

The (potential) BGW is holding me back from restoring triple Spurs til 27, yeah, even though I'll really want Maddi. Might sell Rich in 25, carry Porro/TAA/Salah on the bench in 26 then restore 2 Spurs mids on WC

I think the time for a Lo Celso punt has passed tbh. Would expect Kulusevski as the 10 til Maddison returns, and even with Bissouma/Sarr away I suspect Ange will use Hojberg/Skipp more to partner Bentancur in the CM roles

Sorry didn't even see you mentioned Haaland. Don't go near him for now, 2 months out basically at this stage and seems to have had multiple setbacks. Even if he returns v Spurs I'll be waiting at least a couple of weeks before thinking of getting him. This is the first significant issue he's had at at City and I'm not confident he'll be playing 90 minutes or near basically every game once he's fully fit like he did last season

Weird how people are putting it on Forest players to complain, I'd say.

They're not refs, and we want less player complaints, not more.

Yep, it's the same with throw-ins. It's up to the ref to decide if the player's gained a few yards and the onus shouldn't be on the players to complain.

Tough one but if we assume it’s got to be one of Watkins or Solanke then I’d take Watkins unless money is an issue. Worth highlighting some other honourable mentions that may be the flavour of the month any time soon: Nkunku, Wood, Cunha and Isak all have the promise to go big in the second half of the season

How did Gabriel not get max baps? Absolute farce.

Interestingly he lost bps for his second goal because it counted as a shot off target and a big chance missed.

Martineli also made 6 tackles in just 22 minutes. I should really be writing the scout notes for this match! 😀

It’s tough to take. Got to accept the rules though and 2 goals gets big points. Anyway, 17 points looks very nice propping up my defence

GW22 captaincy could be another swingy GW with no clear option.

    - No premium to go for
    - folks put off Saka after blank even though against Forest
    - Rich/ Spurs attackers with favourable home fixture against poor Brentford defence
    - Alvarez/Foden/KDB at home against Burnley
