Watchlist

The Watchlist – Jonny Evans

It’s not been the most straightforward of seasons for United’s Jonny Evans. Four times the centre-half has been sidelined now, with ankle, leg, groin and hamstring problems curtailing his game time over the course of the campaign – as a result, the most he’s managed is six consecutive league starts thus far.

Nevertheless, Evans’ presence in the United back-four has been significant. The league leaders have managed one clean sheet in the 10 games without the Northern Ireland international in their first XI – with Evans in the starting line-up, they have registered five clean sheets in 16 games by comparison.

Factor in three goals, a pair of assists and nine Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points and Evans has racked up 81 points – an average of 4.8 points per game, which is exactly the same as Patrice Evra and superior to Rafael’s 4.1. Indeed, this is joint-top for regular defenders overall, equalling Jose Enrique, with the likes of Leighton Baines and Branislav Ivanovic just behind on 4.6 and 4.4 respectively.

Providing he can now remain injury-free, Evans looks set to be key to Sir Alex Ferguson’s side over the remainder of the season. Over the last few days, the United boss has lavished praise upon the centre-half and suggested Evans’ game will continue to develop with the aid of regular appearances. Ferguson hinted that a fully-fit Evans is likely to afford him the chance to alternate Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand at centre-half as United also juggle FA Cup and Champions League commitments.

“Jonny is only 25 but he’s emerged in the last year as a real top defender. His form has been fantastic. If you can get consistency off young players you are on the right track and Jonny has shown great consistency in the last year. Last season it wasn’t until Ferdinand and Evans played regularly that we got a run going.”

Considering United’s midfield have failed to step up as Fantasy options this season, investment in defence could well appeal ahead of a run of games which affords the chance to consolidate their 12 point lead at the summit. Norwich and Reading roll up to Old Trafford over the next five and with trips to QPR, West Ham and Sunderland also on their agenda, faith in their Fantasy assets could extend beyond their free-scoring frontmen.

Coming in at 5.6 in FPL and 7.5 in the Sky Sports game, Evans is significantly cheaper than Evra’s 7.3 in FPL and also sets you back less than Rafael, at 6.0. An ownership of 1% offers a real differential route into a backline that has now registered four back-to-back clean sheets with the centre-half in their ranks – an indication of just why Ferguson sees Evans’ contribution as crucial to his side’s chances of wrestling back the title from City.

I see a couple of people saying that most who loaded up on the dgwk got a great score and can afford a hit.

I'm one of the few that scored relatively low (74) & have left my team in a mess. Suffered a fall of about 3k and my 4 point hit was doing Bale -> Gerrard (c)

Who feels sorry for me? 😀

Re: the "people who had a good GW can afford hits to filed 11) logic. I don't agree. Just because you did well, it doesn't mean you should take hits to offload the players who did well for you, especially since any advantaged gained from fielding one more player in GW27 will be (partly if not wholly) negated by losing out on 4 points.

So approaching this from a different angle - if your score was poor last GW and you were struggling to field 11 would you decide you couldn't afford the hit(s) because last week wasn't good enough? Or would you try to decide if they were worth it for the current and future gameweeks and put last week in the past where it belongs?

I suppose I'm approaching this from an accounting perspective - sunk costs and all that.

Previously (when I was considering each gameweek completely by itself and happily taking hits to maximize my future projected points - see GWs 15-23) I would have ignored the past, yes. But over that run I also realized that making transfers with reference only to the future was messing up my team. I ended up with Olsson, Luiz, Demel, Sagna, Cisse and Podolski in it, all of which at some point were the best punts for the next few, and I needed a big clearout in my January WC.

Considering each GW by itself means that a plan such as "get Rooney in for the next 6" (which would have done very well) becomes impossible, becomes it needs to be reconsidered in each intervening GW. It contradicts planning.

Just something I've come across from my own experience.

    Pearce / Clichy / Rafael
    Puncheon / Fellaini / Walcott (vc) / Mata / Bale (c)
    Benteke / Aguero

    Nicholls / Davies / Johnson / Suarez

Not sure whether to ditch Suarez now or not. Was quite tempted by GJ/Suarez > Evans/Rooney (-4) but Liverpool's run post-blank is quite nice and Suarez could match or beat Rooney quite easily.

Wilson's had another hour today in a friendly vs Scunthorpe, taken off in a mass change when the youths went on. I'd say its very likely he'll play vs Fulham, but also very likely we'll concede 2. If you havent got him its probably best to leave it for a week.

Here are my differential tips for the run in for any1 that cares

Sergio Aguero with only 5.4% ownership and no blank gw29 looks good and seems to be nailed down he is bound to get double figures a few times considering his quality between here and the end of the session

Jonny Evans with only 1.2% ownership him merits have been discussed on here a lot and with good reason

Shinji Kagawa with only 4.1% ownership most of whom are inactive players that had him from day 1 is a player to look at he was doing ok until he got injured early on in the session but i think there is big double point possibilitys with this player on the run in Fergie will try to integrate his big summer signing in to the 1st team asap now that he is back fit goals and assists written all over this guy he is a classy player

Marc Wilson has been talked about here 2 with good reason at only£3.9m and 0.4% ownership his sheer value will attract a lot of new suitors bandwagon imminent with this lad

Romelu Lukaku with 4.9% ownership looks like a player that can get a lot of ffl points like the look of this player a lot

Arouna Kone last but not least on my list and my top tip as a run in differential is this player with only
0.6% ownership this player has been overlooked in recent weeks thanks to the exploits of players in the same price bracket and the fact that he went missing in the middle of the session for the African nations cup he has produced x2 figures twice already this session and i know there is a lot more to come with this player he got a brace in the FA cup at the weekend just to show that he still knows where the goal is after his return from Africa with Reading next i would love to have this player in my squad he has some tough fixtures granted but you cant leave that put you off as Rickie Lambert showed us against City he would be a excellent diff to other players in his price range imo

Any thoughts on these players as diffs any1 you would like to add to my diffs list?

Never good does not mean that he will not be good in the future he has a decent record in Germany and i want to be sitting on this bandwagon before it starts to get me a good seat if i am going to get rid of Fellini it will be for this player

don't know about germany but he was/is often subbed around 60 mins if not starting from the bench. if he once in every 10 GWs does score or assist, he sure as hell does not want bonus points. this does not sound like 7.9 to me. hell, i wouldn't have him if he was 5.0, waste of space.

Alright chaps, team linked 0.2 in bank

    A) Suarez to Aguero (free)

you reasoning for not going for B isn't quite right. A hit shouldn't just be judged on a single gameweek. Bertrand will likely contribute very little over the run in, unlike Wilson. The 4 points would easily be made back within just a few weeks given is suspect the presence of Wilson in your team will be a boost to your expected points for GWs28,30 and 32.

I thought it will be to my ranking but it isn't. I see a lot of movement in there. When established I was 35th now 40th overall. Looks like new chaps are coming in the FFS league. All u need is to search Daniel 😉

Who do you consider the best captain choice for next week? I've a feeling towards Walcott because of his consistency, Villas poor defense and the risk of RVP being saved for CL. But still, I trust RVP more than any other.. always play, always captain..

I prefer stability over on/off-players like Bale to be honest

    Sturridge vs Suarez

    a) Keep Suarez meaning Sturridge > Dzeko/Benteke

    or

    b) Keep Sturridge meaning Suarez > Papiss/Giroud then > Dzeko (This move also allows Clyne > Jevans

They have a blank so playing with 1 striker makes no sense. Plus I want Papiss, Giroud or Dzeko as they have some nice fixtures.
