Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 8 – Sunday

Liverpool require two own goals to get the better of QPR, as Raheem Sterling and Steven Gerrard bag an assist apiece. Eduardo Vargas scores twice for the R’s, Wilfried Bony and Charlie Adam both notch for the second consecutive Gameweek, whilst Victor Moses produces an assist for the fourth league match in succession for Stoke.

Balotelli Fails to Convince
Brendan Rodgers recalled Mario Balotelli to the starting XI in the lone striker role for the QPR clash, but witnessed another wasteful display as his side needed two own goals to beat the basement-dwellers. With frustration amongst the Reds’ faithful now palpable, the situation up front is a far cry from Liverpool’s fluid and threatening forward line of 12 months ago. To compound matters, Rodgers confirmed post-match that Daniel Sturridge is set be sidelined for the next two to four weeks with a calf injury, putting the onus on Balotelli to produce if the Reds are to take full advantage of a kind schedule which see them face Hull, Newcastle, Palace, Stoke and Leicester in the next six.

Sterling’s Still Ticking Over
Despite a multitude of concerns surrounding Raheem Sterling’s fitness after his recent international duties, Liverpool’s starlet played the full 90 minutes at Loftus Road and earned an assist and two bonus points. Whilst the Reds’ forwards may be toiling, the winger has now scored or assisted in five of his last seven starts and sits just two points off the top of the FPL midfield standings. Though Philippe Coutinho and Steven Gerrard threw their hats into the ring with attacking returns yesterday, Sterling still looks the likeliest source of points across those aforementioned fixtures.

Super Sub Vargas Bags A Brace
The Chilean climbed off the bench to score twice for Harry Redknapp’s side in a 12-minute cameo that should see him press for a starting role for QPR’s home encounter with Aston Villa in Gameweek 9. Vargas has now produced two goals, an assist and three bonus points across his last couple of appearances, though at 6.4 still looks too big a punt in a side who have lost four of their last five league outings. The Hoops have five strong fixtures in their next seven (AVL, new, LEI, swa, BUR) that could help turnaround their fortunes, though despite making changes at the back and between the posts, Harry Redknapp’s defence continues to look there for the taking– yesterday’s loss means they have now conceded two or more goals in six of their last seven league matches.

Bony’s Form Looking Up
Yesterday’s penalty strike means the Ivorian now has back-to-back goals to his name, and is finally starting to find his form ahead of an enticing home clash with Leicester next weekend. Available for 8.3 in the Fantasy Premier League game, Bony struggled in the early stages of this season, but his starting spot now looks secure, and with Swansea not having won since Gameweek 3, his rediscovered eye for goal could prove key if they are to turn their fortunes around. However, the Swans’ following three fixtures after the Foxes meeting (eve, ARS, mci) may well deter investors until Gameweek 13.

Sigurdsson On The Slide
His performance against the Potters saw the playmaker leave the field early after serving up a fourth blank in the last five Gameweeks, as his early-season consistency certainly shows signs of waning. Sigurdsson’s recent international displays, allied with his 10-point haul in Gameweek 7, had many hoping he would be able to produce against Mark Hughes’ men, but a total of just nine successful passes in the final third and no shots registered was indicative of his minimal impact. With his form floundering and so many other midfield options flourishing right now, some may consider looking elsewhere once the Leicester game is out of the way.

Stoke Midfield Hit Their Stride
Victor Moses was again in the points yesterday after controversially winning his side’s first-half penalty. That’s now four assists in the Nigerian’s last four appearances, though, despite a favourable 5.5 price tag, he continues to bubble under with an ownership of just 0.4%. It was Charlie Adam who stepped up to take the spot kick and, though he had dropped deeper to cover for the absence of Glen Whelan, the Scot’s penalty-taking duties have ensured he has now netted in each of his last two outings. With Oussama Assaidi and Jon Walters also in the points for the Potters yesterday, their midfield is starting to show some appeal, though managers should be wary that they face a dire upcoming schedule (sou, WHM, tot, BUR , liv, mun, ARS) with those two home encounters looking the only attractive fixtures right now.

This was my fantasy team in September 2006

Balls out tripling up on Portsmouth defence: James, Sol, Matty Taylor.

#118 in the world with Marlon King up front and Scotty Parker in midfield… WTF!

I'm thinking of 1 of 3 transfers this week:

    A) Sterling > Tadic
    B) Siggy > Tadic
    C) Welbeck > Pelle

    My team is currently:

    Forster / Myhill
    Clyne / Wisdom / Chambers / Hutton / Bruce
    Fabregas / Sterling / Siggy / ADM / Boyd
    Aguero / Costa / Welbeck

    Thanks.

    Sorry for the repost guys

I have no idea what to do with this lot after a great score

    Foster (krul)

    Baines - caulker - Clyne
    Fab - sterling - chadli - siggy
    Costa - pelle (vc) - Aguero (c)

    Cork, wisdom, Hutton

    .2 inB
    2 FT

Caulker to chambers seems like a bad move for some reason, I feel caulker has a good run and will score. Siggy has 1 more week for me...'waiting on news of Costa.

    My back up option is

Krul > Guzan for long term rotation for keepers

Any thoughts greatly appreciate, will happily give feedback on other teams if people post them in replies

I reckon there is a system to getting th votes for community pick
First couple of posts will get a few but won't win as many people never go for first choice and they ain't going to go back and look over them again.
Any posts after first 7-8 options will be ignored , particularly if the ones before have went in depth explanation of their selections.
You need at least two lines for each selection explaining why you picked them, but by the time it gets to forwards you could write it in tellytubbie language as nobody will read that much, they just automatically think you have looked into it.
You need one key differential who isn't a differential really but everyone will think they are smart cause they also thought about it, and in effect they are voting for their own ego.
You need to be popular, it's a simple fact. If you don't have grav and don't participate in the community activities you are basically will from the inbetweeners.

Anyone who picks a solid team with on-form, highly owned players doesn't get hardly any votes because it's 'boring'. Then the scouts pick the obvious choices and win every time.

looking that way mate. Chadli's fixtures are superb for a long time and Barkley is a great sideways move if he starts to falter.

Nah, attacking points are the reason I'm going for Baines. He's well worth the premium.

6 in just one game though, too early to assess the amount of goals they will suffer and the fixtures are a bit easier now.

They had a shocking start. Fixtures suggested they would anyway.

Yet Baines is still among the highest scoring defenders, with form, coming into an amazing run of fixtures.

He (and Coleman) should be the top targets beyond Aguero IMO

I was looking at Naylor -> Baines with Sterling -> Chadderz, myself.

Liverpool fixtures are so nice and Moreno was only rested, i want him to get at least one more game for me. Same with Sterling though...

that's a 4 point hit for three defensive changes, and Naylor and Moreno -who have great fixtures - would be replaced by shite. It would be a decision as infamous as your username, i fear.

          Then Begovic--->Foster this GW

          and Taylor+Moreno---->Baines+Dummet the next

No hits, Baines and you'll keep Sterling

          no one knows ,
he wont play champs league this w/e thats the only fact we have.

imo , he's going to be carefully managed over the next 3/4 games . if he's isnt already "out".
expect a lot of 60/30mins appearances.

Got 2 FTs and 0.2 mill in the bank.

    Begovic Gilks
    Clyne Naylor PVA Duff Wisdom
    Fabregas DiMaria Sterling Siggy Davis
    Aguero Costa Pelle

PVA -> Chambers/Alcaraz look like the transfer to do?

Anything else that could be done? Downgrade Davis?

Is Baines worth the extra 0.2m over Coleman, or to put it another way would Coleman be a good differential to all the Baines owners?

How is it a 'good differential' when Baines will outscore him? You just get left behind.

      1. HamezMace
        • 10 Years
        10 years, 14 days ago

A good differential in the sense they will both score roughly the same over the season, and he's cheaper - I know only slightly, but that 0.2m could be really useful somewhere down the line

I think it's much safer to just go for Baines if you can afford him, I have considered doubling up by doing Ivanovic to Coleman though.

If I went for Coleman (replacing Moreno btw) I would have exactly enough to double up Howard to replace either Krul, or Foster as well.

But I don't like doubling up in defence.

I also don't like overpaying for players - as in after a price rise.

I'd go Baines, Coleman gets goals but Baines' set pieces are probably a more reliable source of points.

      1. HamezMace
        • 10 Years

I think the set pieces thing will just about sway it - it's the same logic that made me go with Tadic over Mane, and that worked out well last weekend.

Would you have any concern about Everton players given the Europa league curse.

    (Repost) Thoughts on Costa>Aguero:

    - you lose 0.3-0.4 on Costa's value
    - Costa has important fixtures that he should feature in soon
    - City play easy opponents in the league but have do-or-die CL games, so I doubt whether he'll play a lot now that Dzeko and Jovetic are fit
    - first sub could cover for 1 GW (in my case that is downing, chambers, wisdom, which is decent)
    - aguero just rose to 12.4 and is unlikely to rise more than another 0.1 this week.

    Any thoughts?
