Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 14 – Wednesday

It was a night that saw the heavy-hitters deliver, as Sergio Aguero, Alexis Sanchez and Eden Hazard produced the goals and points to steer their teams to victories and put smiles on the faces of their Fantasy owners. Here’s the notes from Wednesday’s action…

BLUES BREEZE PAST SPURS

Chelsea overcame the absence of Diego Costa to storm past Tottenham in a performance that saw a number of their assets highlight their growing appeal. Didier Drogba was called up to replace the Spaniard up top and vindicated Jose Mourinho’s faith with a goal and an assist on his way to a double figure haul. It’s worth noting that Costa has failed to surpass the 10-point mark since Gameweek 4, and with Loic Remy also scoring from the bench yesterday, Mourinho was served a reminder that he can win matches without Costa if injuries and suspensions, or even fatigue, play their part.

Meanwhile, Eden Hazard got his name on the scoresheet once again: he has now found the back of the net in four consecutive home matches, a tally that has moved the Belgian level with Cesc Fabregas in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) midfield rankings. Hazard’s last ten goals have all come in home matches. With Oscar also notching an assist, owners of Cesc Fabregas may now be edging towards a possible switch to one of his midfield teammates. The Spaniard has returned in five of his last eight league starts but is struggling to keep pace with Hazard’s goal power.

The Blues’ defence also earned points once again: they’ve now recorded clean sheets in four consecutive games in all competitions; Cesar Azpilicueta grabbed an assist and maximum bonus points, and, at 6.1, the left back looks the standout option in their rearguard right now as Branislav Ivanovic’s attacking returns continue to stall. Gary Cahill could be a doubt for the visit to Newcastle at the weekend having been forced off following a clash of heads. Indeed, with Nemanja Matic suspended for the weekend after earning his fifth booking last night, Chelsea’s defensive resolve may well be tested by Alan Pardew’s men.

POCHETTINO KEEPS FAITH IN KANE

Despite a miserable result for Spurs, Harry Kane’s owners will have been encouraged by the forward’s continued run of starts, and almost saw the youngster almost deliver returns once again only for his first half header rattled the crossbar. The 4.9 valued striker now has an excellent schedule ahead (CPL, swa, BUR, lei), and with Nacer Chadli benched again last night, the England Under-21 star, along with midfield schemer Christian Eriksen, remain the key targets on offer. It remains to be seen if Chadli can earn a recall for the visit of Palace, with Aaron Lennon again earning a start on the flank and Roberto Soldado likely to return to the Spurs teamsheet.

AGUERO THE ARMBAND HERO AGAIN

Sergio Aguero maintained his rampaging form with two goals and an assist as Man City triumphed where Chelsea failed, sweeping aside Sunderland with relative ease. The Argentine was at his clinical best, beating erstwhile teammate Costel Pantilimon with both of his attempts on target, whilst also setting up strike partner Stefan Jovetic. Augero earned 32 points for those who chose to hand him the Gameweek armband. The Argentine has now returned in seven of his last nine league starts, scoring 11 goals in the process, whilst collecting 14 bonus points. It’s hard to deny that he’s anything other than “essential” at this point in time. City’s schedule over the Christmas period is so favourable, it looks almost unthinkable to progress without Aguero – (EVE lei CPL wba BUR SUN). He’s currently owned by 35% of Fantasy Premier League managers – and rising.

As for Jovetic, last night was his third successive start, with the Montenegrin producing two goals and assist over that time, though his potential continues to be dented by Manuel Pellegrini’s insistence on subbing him off early – the 7.8 valued striker is yet to complete 90 minutes in the league this season.

SANCHEZ SINKS SAINTS LATE ON

Alexis Sanchez struck at the death to earn Arsenal a precious 1-0 win over Southampton, much to the relief of those who put faith in the Chilean with the Gameweek captaincy. Sanchez has now scored seven league goals in his last seven league starts, cementing his status as the “essential” component of our midfields. Quite simply, Arsenal’s alternative attacking targets are struggling to get close to offer suitable cover, with Danny Welbeck blanking once again before finding himself edging out to the left-flank with the introduction of Olivier Giroud from the bench. It’s one goal in six league outings for Welbkeck, while Aaron Ramsey’s output continues to disappoint – he has not found the net in the league since Gamweek 2.

At the back, the Gunners have now tallied three consecutive clean sheets in all competitions. Per Mertesaker, Calum Chambers and Laurent Koscielny all earned bonus points in last night’s win and we could now see a wave of investment in the trio ahead of Saturday’s trip to Stoke. Chambers’ budget-friendly 5.0 price tag is sure to tempt many, though Mathieu Debuchy’s scheduled return from injury next week dents the teenager’s appeal: stumping up the extra cash for centre-back duo Mertesaker and Koscielny looks the most sensible long-term option.

KOEMAN’S CASUALTIES MOUNTING UP

Southampton’s recent downturn in fortunes endured last night, with injuries to Dusan Tadic and Toby Alderweireld compounding their luckless to defeat. The Saints have now failed to find the net in their last two and have failed to collect a clean sheet since Gameweek 11, as their tough schedule continues to diminish hopes of maintaining their table topping challenge. With new injuries, plus doubts over midfield stalwart Morgan Schneirderlin’s fitness, Ronald Koeman’s resources look stretched ahead of the St Mary’s meeting with Man United. The recent struggle and Fantasy exodus looks destined to continue, then, with Graziano Pelle’s ownership unlikely to remain above the 25% by the time this weekend’s deadline arrives.

BELGIANS BLINKING BRIGHTLY ON THE RADAR

Romelu Lukaku took his total to four goals in his last seven outings with the Toffees’ single strike in their 1-1 stalemate with Hull. Meanwhile, Kevin Mirallas’ assist for his compatriot’s effort took him to two goals and two assists in his last three in all competitions; he was, however, subbed off early again as Roberto Martinez continues to ease him back into action. Meanwhile, it’s not so rosy at the back for the Toffees: the 23% owned Leighton Baines blanked for the third time in four appearances and with a trip to City up next, the FPL’s premium left-back is testing his owners’ patience. To compound matters, Everton have four of the next six on the road.

    Best move here lads?

    A) Krul -> Guzan
    B) Albrighton -> Boyd
    C) Bony -> Austin/Kane (enables Baines next week)

    Bank 1.0m, 2 free transfers

    Elliot
    Terry, Chambers, Hutton
    Sanchez, Hazard, Downing, Siggy
    Aguero, Costa, Bony

    Krul, Yun, Wisdom, Albrighton

A & C, Elliot won't get points this week, IMO bony could also struggle to get points next week, this seems like the perfect week to do both. Then baines in next week!

Could be on to something here.

Depending on which defender id lose for Baines next week (could be Chambers if Debuchy comes back in) I could go for Hart/Lloris instead of Guzan in goal if I go with Kane. Thoughts?

Not moaning here but really feel this had to be the week where the people with a differential, or
shall I say a non mainstream, captain, the Bonys and Siggys, needed a bit of an encouragement.
Not only did they fail but Aguero absolutely destroyed the competition.
I myself went with Siggy and I stand by the fact that it was justified given his form and the fixture,
combined with the Sunderland performance vs Chelsea and the fact that City normally struggle
there. Risk definitely but not an audacious overreaching punt by any stretch of imagination.
The way it panned out though, I feel a part of me died today. The adventurous part that would urge
me to go for the high risk high reward captain choice. Who knows? May be its for the good, for
differential captains is something I am not gonna be entertaining for the foreseeable future.

Amen. In same boat, bro. But maybe Sunderland gave so much against Chelsea they were there for the taking. #Hindsight.

High risk, low reward tho... even if u got lucky and and Siggy had a great game, that would be something like one goal and baps... thats a normal week for Aguero. There´s just not enough upside in a captain like that. One could argue for Hazard, but no one else imo.

Like I´ve said all week long, people took Sunderland way too serious and gave them too much credit. The fact that it was really only ONE fact to argue against Aguero and sooo many reasons to captain him is just crazy imo. Just play it safe with the captain and take a punt or two on other players.

      1. Solenya
        • 12 Years

In hindsight may be yes. But, we wouldn't have been surprised had City mate the same fate as Chelsea and Aguero had blanked. Point is there was a clear opportunity to go different this week. I would've taken an Aguero 7/8 ptr on the chin and moved on. It's slightly sad the risk takers were brutally slated.

        1. Mr Blue
          • 13 Years
          9 years, 5 months ago

I think we have to agree to disagree...
This is not about hindsight for me, I tried to reason with people why it was a no brainer for me. But all the ones that didnt captin Aguero could only see one fact, Sunderland solid at home.. Chelsea game. Why refuse to look at the other side of the coin and see the many reason to captain him?

          1. Solenya

            9 years, 5 months ago

I can see where you're coming from but it wasn't a closed and shut case for Aguero(c) imo. The very fact that so many people thought there was reward in going different, meant it wasn't an audacious gamble. But the way the cookie crumbled, Kun (c) ers have been vindicated so I won't argue on it further.

I guess not Captaining Aguero vs Sunderland was not a bad decision because they were very strong defensively against Chelsea. So u dont have to be sad abt ur differential captain. It happens
i mean 4 weeks back i was on 8999 and now on 80k but ive a feeling i will bounce back

Yup that's my point, to repeat what I wrote above, we wouldn't have been surprised had City mate the same fate as Chelsea and Aguero had blanked. There was a clear opportunity to go different this week.

Yep, I went Bony over Aguero for the differential but failed miserably. I was chopping and changing a lot but, eventually backed Bony. I was unlucky mind - he easily could have matched Aguero based on the chances he had but it just wasn't to be.

Like you say, you dip your toe and get bitten then revert to playing safe. Looking at the fixtures from here on in, I won't be straying from the Aguero/Costa captaincy for many weeks. I might even stick with Aguero throughout.

Siggy captainers were a centimetre away from having him finish on 11 x 2, which I would've been extremely happy with. Plus Green played out of his skin to prevent more goals/assists. If Panti had that GK performance instead, it wouldn't have been so bad. You do what you can, but there is still luck involved and you just have to hope you get it right more often than you get it wrong. I feel bad about my 73 thinking it could have been an 86, but it's not the end of the world.

Guys, is it worth to do Fab and Clyne to Sanchez and Azpi for -8? Can't afford rising - it's now or never. Fabregas was fantastic, but no Sanchez can hurt me a lot, and Arsenal got nice fixtures with Sanchez is main player there. Already got Hazard. Chelsea def is must also. Would give me:

    Foster - Krul
    Baines - Azpi - Naylor - Hutton - Yun
    Sanchez - Hazard - Siggy - Downing - Boyd
    Aguero - Rooney - Austin

No. Hold tight. Baines, Hutton and Yun is an Ok defence this week and Arsenal are playing a Stoke side who don't concede very many.

You should buy them but not for 2 hits. Wait until next week. You seem like you're chasing last week's score by taking unnecessary hits like that.

    Sanchez, Fabregas, Siggy, Downing (Boyd)

Feeling in a good place right now. 90 points last game week & back up to best position since gw2 134k. Bear in mind gw1, 11k by gw3, 1.1mil, now on the way back !

So ditched Costa for Haz this week so got Fab & Azpi too. The question is do I ditch Fab ? I think its time ? Is this madness ?

Even debating whether Costa is actually all that too ? I know he scores but im not feeling it as much as I could or should be ? Maybe a Benteke, Bony (who I signed this week instead of Costa) or A. N. Other might be a better option short term & get Costa back when I feel right

    Thoughts and suggestions please. Thanks.

Am I ok to save the FT?

    Green
    Baines - Azpi - Hutton
    Hazard - Sanchez - Siggy - Downing
    Aguero - Lukaku - Austin

    Krul - Yun - Boyd - Dummett

    1FT, 1.9m in the bank.

Nice try 😉 They can delete captain option, not switching it from Aguero. Lesson learned.

not confident tbh on Aguero (c) due to Everton being fairly solid and Aguero being rested, however they're aren't any other options that attract this week

Weren't solid enough to keep Hull quiet at Goodison. The way City are playing they will stretch the Everton defence at the Etihad.

Everton13/14 38 games, 39 conceded. 14/15 after 14 games, 22 conceded. Distin looked 36 last night and got run ragged by an average HullI strike force who hadnt scored for 6 games. I only see Aguero double or better in 70 minutes. And Aguero will play every game while he is in this form. Pelegrini can not afford not too. He is like Suarez to Liverpool - essential. As he is to all Fpl managers and more fool any of you who doubt it.

    Foster
    Baines/Yun/Chambers
    Sanchez/Siggy/Hazard/Tadic
    Aguero/Bony/Berahino

    Bench: Krul/Marney/Wisdom/Naylor

    1FT, 2.9 ITB

I was planning Berahino -> Benteke, but should I ditch Tadic first as he’s doubtful?

Wait and see, and stick to the original plan IMO, unless Tadic is confirmed out.

I would still do the original plan in that case.......Tadic didn't seem totally crocked and they don't play until Monday so has an extra day or two to recover anyway.

          Have a good trip!

I know, but so does Berahino, and Benteke at home to Villa is going to be more profitable (probably) than, say, Downing against Swansea. Then again, Berahino against Hull could do well.

I've heard a few times over the last week or so that Aguero & Costa rotate well for the (c) armband.

Nah - even with Costa at home to Hull I'd prefer to (c) Aguero away to Leicester.

Surely, it's Aguero(c) from now up until Winter WC at the earliest, barring any doubt/injury?

Yes. Was a bit worried about next gw tho, Roma is a very important game. But he got subbed off last night so Im pretty sure he will start and play 70 mins or so, which is enough to score a brace again 🙂
