There’s mixed news for Everton’s full-backs. Right-back Hibbert has suffered another knock having just returned from long-term injury against Liverpool. Hibbert missed the 1-0 win over Blackburn and Everton did fear he’d be out for several weeks. However, a scan on his knee showed no serious damage [source] but he’s still out of Everton’s game with Spurs on Wednesday. On a more positive note for Everton, both Naysmith and Pistone appeared for the reserves in midweek. Both played out 90 minutes and will come into contention for the Spurs game [source].
That’s pretty significant because it could mean a reshuffle of a very successful Everton backline. This could be bad news for those who have invested in Alan Stubbs. Either Naysmith or Pistone are likely to be restored to the left-back slot, shifting Lescott back to the centre alongside Yobo. While Hibbert’s injury is likely to see Stubbs keep his place on Wednesday, the veteran may well lose his place in the coming weeks, despite his recent form.
