News on today’s team selections, goals and assists.
The day began with United scraping a 2-1 victory against a plucky Fulham side. United looked jaded throughout but snatched the win in the closing stages, thanks to some Ronaldo magic. Silvestre supplying the assist to Ronaldo who ran from his own half to slot home. Earlier Davies’ persistance had created the opener for Fulham, causing confusion in the United defence which opened the way for McBride to finish smartly. Giggs drew United level with a deft finish via a Rooney assist.
In the 3 o’clocks kick-offs Charlton crushed West Ham at the Valley, surely banishing the Hammers to the Championship. First half goals from Ambrose, Thomas and Darren Bent on his return, were capped by a second goal from Thomas after the break. Marcus Bent laid on the first goal for Ambrose. He then went off with a knock to be replaced by Hasselbaink who in turn, duly went on to earn an assist for Darrent Bent’s goal. Ambrose also earned an assist, providing the cross for Thomas’ second goal.
Liverpool coasted to victory over Sheffield United with Gerrard clocking up a goal and 2 assists. Stevie G fired in the final goal in the 4-0 win after Robbie Fowler struck twice from the spot, both penalities assisted by Gerrard. Hyypia scored the third of Liverpool’s goals.
Viduka gave Boro a half-time lead with Pogatetz contributing his fifth assist of the season. Viduka then turned supplier for Yakubu, before Oster gave Reading a sniff with a goal 10 minutes from time.
Meanwhile in the late afternoon kickoff, Everton blitzed Watford in the first 45 minutes. Fernades poking in the first after Lee spilled Cahill’s effort. Cahill awarded the assist for that goal. Johnson hit the second from the spot, picking himself up after being felled by DeMerit in the area. Looked fairly harsh, but the boos from the Watford fans only allowed Johnson the opportunity to silence them. Everton saw the second half out comfortably, adding a smart third goal from Osman. Beattie providing the assist.
