Fernando Torres has arrived in the Premiership after his “£ god knows how much” move from Athletico to Liverpool was completed today. Torres was slotted straight into the Telegraph game for a cool £7 million making him the fourth most expensive forward available behind Berbatov (7.2), Drogba (7.6) and Rooney (8.0). A ranking that other Fantasy games are likely to go along with.
The 23-year old registered 14 goals and 5 assists in 36 games for Athletico last season. A very decent haul, however the question to ask is just how many games will he start for Benitez? Yes, he’ll be first choice but with Crouch, Kuyt , Voronin and perhaps Bellamy, still at the club, plus Rafa’s reputation for rotation around Champions League fixtures, it seems likely that Torres’ appearances will be around the 30 mark. In fact Benitez commented today when questioned on the fight for places up front, “I’d rather have four strikers who score 15 goals each. I like to change players with a rotation policy.”
Bearing this in mind, the points return from him may not be as rich as his price tag indicates. The likes of Rooney and Drogba should get more Premiership starts if you’re looking for a top tier striker. Even with the man of the match awards he’ll doubtless get, a less fashionable option like Doyle at Reading or Viduka at Newcastle, could well offer better bang for your Fantasy buck.
