Torres and Babel make their debuts for Liverpool, Fulham and Newcastle kick-off their pre-season and Bolton reach the final of the Peace Cup in Korea. Get all the results, line-ups, scorers and other nonsense from today’s games here…

Racing Santander 1 Bolton 2

Bolton progressed to the final of the Peace Cup in Korea today with a 2-1 win over Racing Santander . Anelka was brought into the starting lineup and hit both goals after Sammy Lee’s side trailed to a 26th minute goal. Lee brought introduced Abdoulaye Faye and El Hadji Diouf in addition to Anelka but kept faith with the 4-4-2 formation for the third game running. Interestingly Guthrie once again started in midifield. This offers some clues to Lee’s thinking next season. Only Guthrie, Meite, Harsanyi and Hunt have started every game in this tournament for Bolton although Harsanyi was drafted into the first game at the last minute due to an injury to Stelios.

Bolton Lineup: Walker, Hunt, Meite (Michalik 75), Cid, Samuel, Guthrie (McCann 68), Faye (Campo 45), Sinclair (Stelios 66), Diouf (Nolan 45), Harsanyi (Vaz Te 45), Anelka

FC Chiasso 0 Derby 2

Derby claimed a 2-0 win against their Italian opponents thanks to goals from centre-back Dean Leacock and last season’s leading scorer, Steve Howard. Billy Davies’ side were without Giles Barnes who is currently struggling to make the season opener. They were also without Keeper Stephen Bywater who was suffering a slight groin strain, while Lewin Nyatanga was missing with a calf injury. New signing Claude Davis meanwhile is still waiting for his work permit to be cleared.

Derby Lineup: Camp (Hinchliffe 46), Edworthy (Mears 46), Todd (Leacock 46), Johnson (Moore 46), Jackson (McEveley 46), Beardsley (Teale 46), Oakley (Malcolm 46), Pearson (Jones 46), Camara, Macken (Fagan 46), Earnshaw (Howard 46)

Hartlepool 1 Newcastle 3

Newcastle played out their first pre-season game at Hartlepool tonight, running out winners with goals from Owen and a brace from Ameobi. New signing Rozehnal started at centre-back with Barton partnering Butt in the centre of midfield. Big Sam started with Martins and Carroll up front although Owen appeared in the second half. Geremi and Luque are apparently not up to speed with training as yet while Mark Viduka is currently away with the Australian national side. James Milner and Steven Taylor were given extra time off due to their involvement with the England U21’s post season, while Emre and Duff are sidelined with ankle and foot injuries.

Newcastle Lineup: Given (Steve Harper, 46), Carr, Huntington, Ramage, Rozehnal (Solano, 46), Butt (Troisi, 46), Barton, Dyer, N’Zogbia, Carroll (Ameobi, 46), Martins (Owen, 46)

Dagenham & Redbridge 0 Fulham 1

Diomansy Kamara scored on his debut for Fulham as they beat Dagenham 1-0 with what is described on Fulham’s website as an “efficient display”. Mmmm. Fulham fielded a strong sides in both halves, swapping their entire 11 at half-time. The most interesting aspect of their lineup in the first half being the fact that Queudrue was employed on the left of midfield in front of new signing Konchesky. Smertin apparently emerged as Man of the Match on the night.

Fulham Lineup 1st Half: Niemi, Baird, Konchesky, Knight, Hughes, Davis, Brown, Davies, Queudrue, McBride, Kamara.

Fulham Lineup 2nd Half: Warner; Volz, Pearce, Bocanegra, Rosenior; Dempsey, Diop, Smertin, Timlin; John, Healy

Werder Bremen 2 Liverpool 3

Torres made his debut tonight but once again, it was Andriy Voronin who was hailed as Man of the Match. The Ukrainian striker hit a brace as Rafa’s side overcome Bremen 3-2. John Arne Riise got the third of Liverpool’s goals with a 30-yard effort. Ryan Babel and Yossi Benayoun made their debuts as second-half subs.

Liverpool lineup: Carson, Riise (Arbeloa 46), Hyypia (Carragher 46), Paletta (Agger 46), Finnan (Darby 46), El Zhar (Babel 73), Gerrard (Sissoko 46), Hobbs (Alonso 46), Pennant (Benayoun 46), Crouch (Kuyt 46), Voronin (Torres 63).

Hertha Berlin 1 Middlesbrough 1

A Yakubu penalty earned Boro a draw in their second game on their German pre-season tour. Southgate handed new signing Jeremie Aliadiere his debut but Pogatetz was absent as he was nursing a slight knock from the Schalke game. Southgate was probably right to rest him as the game apparently turned a bit nasty in the second-half. First Andrew Davies was involved in a clash that reportedly broke his nose, before Rochemback was sent off minutes later. Perhaps the main point of interest here however is the postion adopted by Tuncay – with Yakubu and Aliadiere up front, it appears that Tuncay was deployed on the right wing, a position that he drifted in and out of in Boro’s previous game – certainly it appears the Turk will not be employed as an out an out striker on a regular basis. Tuncay gave way to Euell in the second-half.

Middlesbrough Lineup: Turnbull; Hines (Morrison 45), Riggott, Davies, Taylor (Wheater 45), Cattermole (Walker 75), Boateng, Rochemback, Yakubu (Kennedy 75), Tuncay (Euell 45), Aliadiere (Craddock 45)

Urawa Red Diamonds 2 Man United 2

United were held to a draw in their first pre-season game in Tokyo today. Goals from Darren Fletcher and Cristiano Ronaldo turned the game around after United trailed, however Diamonds equalised late in the day to earn a very creditable draw, particularly given the United lineup. Aside from Gary Neville and United’s new signings – Nani and Anderson, this was very much a full strength side that started this game, with Giggs starting up frong with Rooney. However, Sir Alex rang the changes at half-time.

Man United Lineup:
Van der Sar, Brown, Ferdinand (Evans, 45), Vidic (Simpson, 45), Evra (Silvestre, 45), Ronaldo, Fletcher, Carrick (O’Shea, 69), Giggs (Smith, 69), Scholes, Rooney

Havant 0 Portsmouth 2

Goals from Davis and new boyFranck Songo’o gave Pompey victory over their non-league opponents. Matt Taylor made his first appearance after injury late last term. He was once again deployed in midfield and got the assist for Songo’o’s goal. Lua Lua missed this game as he was playing a benefit game in South Africa.

James, Pamarot, O’Brien, Stefanovic, Traore, Duffy, Davis, Mvuemba, Taylor, Songo’o, Nugent.

Sigma Olomouc 1 West Ham United 0

The Hammers lost the first game of their Austrian tour to their unprouncable opponents. Info is scarce on this but Ashton once again started up front and Faubert found once again, in midfield. The Frenchman was however taken off with an ankle injury and is now likely to miss the start of the season. Bellamy made his debut.

West Ham Lineup: Wright (Walker 45), Spector (Ferdinand 60), Collins (Davenport 45), Upson (Gabbidon 45), McCartney (Dailly 45); Faubert (Collison 35), Parker (Noble 45), Bowyer (Mullins 45), Reid (Boa Morte 45); Ashton (Bellamy 60), Cole (Zamora 60)

FC Zwolle 0 Wigan 2

Scharner and Folan got the goals for Wigan in a 2-0 win over their Dutch opponents. Scharner started in midfield alongside Landzaat , while Kilbane was employed at left-back. Kirkland confirmed his fitness by appearing as sub in the second-half.

Wigan Lineup: Pollitt (Kirkland 46), Melchiot, Boyce (Granqvist 46), Bramble, Kilbane, Cotterill, Scharner, Landzaat, Koumas, Aghahowa, Folan (Heskey 46).

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
