Spurs start their South African adventure with a win. Sven serves up another goal-fest. Sunderlind sunk at Scunthorpe while Newcastle and Boro scrape draws. Get all the lineups, goals and points of interstest from today’s friendlies here…

Kaizer Chiefs 1 Tottenham 2

Spurs kicked off their South African tour with a win over Kaizer Cheifs. Berbatov and Keane, not for the first time, did the damage. Bent had to settle for a place on the bench but emerged to set up Berbatov’s winner as Jol changed tactics and dropped Keane behind the two front men. Younes Kaboul suffered a whack in the face after 4 minutes which saw him replaced but his injury is not expected to keep him out for any length of time. Routledge got a rare start on the wing while Ifil and Rocha filled the full-back roles. There’s still no firm news on the fitness of Gareth Bale after the left-back limped off of Spurs’ first friendly with a thigh injury.

Tottenham Lineup:
Robinson, Ifil (Daniels, 78), Rocha, Kaboul (Gardner 4), Dawson, Routledge (Bent, 57), Zokora, Jenas, Malbranque, Berbatov (Taarabt, 83), Keane

Carlstad United 0 Man City 4

City ended their tour of Sweden with another 4-goal haul. Bianchi hit a brace, Corradi and Laird rounded off the win. Youngster Shaleum Logan held down a starting role and could well be putting himself in contention for a starting spot come August. Geovanni has yet to join up with his new team mates, although fellow new boy, Fernandes, was a second-half sub.

Man City Lineup: Hart (Schmeichel 46), D.Mills, Richards, M.Mills, Ball (Miller 53), Logan, Dabo (Fernandes 53), Hamann (Johnson 53), Ireland (Samaras 53), Corradi (Laird 70), Bianchi

Scunthorpe 1 Sunderland 0

Keane handed debuts to Chopra and Etuhu but saw his new-look side beaten by Championship newboys Scunthorpe. Leadbitter was employed behind the front pairing of Murphy and Chopra while Richardson was out nursing “blisters” apparently – something that no doubt went down well with his new supporters. Russell Anderson is nursing a groin injury while Carlos Edwards has picked up a knock to his knee. All three are expected to travel to Sunderland’s next pre-season destination – a training trip to Ireland where they will play 3 matches.

Sunderland Lineup: Ward (Fulop 46); Halford, Nosworthy, Varga (Pelter 46), Collins (Wallace 34); Yorke, Etuhu (Miller 46), Whitehead (John 46); Leadbitter (Dennehy 69); Murphy, Chopra (Connolly 46)

Burnley 1 Middlsbrough 1

James Morrison salvaged a draw for Boro at Championship Burnley. Tuncay was again employed on the right-hand side rather than up front and actually moved to the left in the second-half. Clearly Southgate has no intention of playing him up front with Aliadierre partnering Yakubu in this match. Boro will face Darlington on Tuesday before travelling to Scotland to face Hibernian next weekend.

Middlesbrough Lineup:
Turnbull; Davies, Riggott, Wheater, Taylor (Walker 67), Tuncay (Owens 75), Boateng (Cattermole 46), Rochemback (Kennedy 67), Johnson (Morrison 46), Aliadiere (Craddock 67), Yakubu (Euell 70).

Carlisle 1 Newcastle 1

Newcastle came away from Brunton Park with a draw thanks to an injury time Nobby Solano strike. Big Sam was without Given, Owen, Ameobi and Viduka while the captain’s armband was handed to new signing Barton who went off with a foot injury on 68-minutes. Newcastle later learned that this injury would keep him out for 6-weeks. Geremi made his debut.

Newcastle Lineup: Harper (Krul 83), Carr (Bertram 83), Rozehnal (Huntington 62), Barton (Lough 68), Dyer (Troisi 75), Martins (LuaLua 75), N’Zogbia, Solano, Butt (Geremi 62), Ramage (Francis 83), Carroll.
