Everton have confirmed the signing of Leighton Baines from Wigan as expected today. The left-back should be assured a starting role in the Everton side and with a Wigan price tag, offers Fantasy Managers a decent option. His arrival will place doubt over Valente’s involvement this season and also Stubbs. The centre-back has tended to come into the side when Lescott has shifted to left-back. That presumably won’t happen now, which mean’s Stubbs’ opportunities are likely to be very limited barring injury to Yobo and Lescott.
Baines is currently carrying a hamstring injury is therefore unlikely to make his debut against his former side at the weekend. Once fit however, Baines is a decent target. He may well be active in set-pieces from the left-hand side and has the reputation for striking a decent ball that have earned him a few spectacular goals. More to the point, Everton’s defence is solid and their early fixtures favourable enough to warrant a punt on their new full-back, once fit.
