There were more than a few bumps and bruises around the Premiership this weekend, including a long-term injury for McBride and a nasty looking knee injury to Gallas. Here’s a round-up of all the knocks to keep an eye on over the week ahead.
The major injuries were at the Cottage where Fulham lost Brian McBride to a serious knee injury and Bouazza to a dislocated shoulder. It’s been confirmed that McBride faces at least 3-months out while Bouazza could be back in around 3-weeks.
Elsewhere, Arsenal’s skipper Gallas was forced off after just 20 minutes against Blackburn with what appeared to be a nasty knee injury. His prolonged absence is likely to give Senderos a run in the side, unless Wenger opts to move Gilberto back alongside Toure. Gilberto is likely to be available next weekend having rested for the first week of the season.
*Update* It’s been confirmed that Gallas will miss 2-3 weeks of action. That’s likely to mean Gallas will be out at least until the Spurs game on September 15.
City lost Bojinov early on against United. The striker was stretchered off after falling awkwardly in a challenge with Evra and it is thought he has picked up a ligament injury. Results from a scan are due early next week.
*Update* Bojinov has suffered serious ligament damage to his knee which will keep him out for at least 3-months. He could also need surgery which would prolong that absence.
Reading picked up a series of injuries in the win over Everton. Stephen Hunt picked up a knock and was subbed after 80 minutes against Everton. Seol was taken off on 69 minutes with a back injury. Before all that, skipper Murty was subbed after just 30 minutes with a hamstring injury. You can expect scan results on that early this week.
In the same game, Everton’s Victor Anichebe was subbed after an hour. He picked up an ankle injury but it was confirmed today that this is only a minor problem which should mean he’ll be available to Moyes next weekend.
Sunderland’s Paul McShane was subbed after an hour against Wigan with a head injury but he should be available to Keane for the game against Liverpool next weekend.
Gary O’Neil limped off for Portsmouth in their win over Bolton. Having just returned from injury, O’Neil now seems doubtful for their game at Chelsea next weekend.
Newcastle’s Geremi took a knock and was replaced right at the death against Aston Villa. No news as yet as to the severity of the knock.
Derby lost full-back Tyrone Mears with a thigh injury after 32 minutes in their drubbing at Spurs. Derby have a ready-made replacement in Griffin if the injury turns out to be long-term.
Mido appeared to limp off on 70 minutes against Fulham. This is most likely to be a lack of match-fitness rather than a knock that could see him miss next weekend.
West Ham lost Jonathan Spector to injury in the 85th minute. Spector is likely to lose his place to skipper, Lucas Neill regardless of fitness, next weekend.
