There’s a Sibierski scare, two knockout blows for Newcastle and broken bones in the Liverpool defence. Get the round-up of the weekend’s knocks…

Sibierski was subbed on 38 minutes with a hamstring strain. Wigan were set to assess the damage on Sunday but early signs are that its a minor strain. Chris Hutchings confirmed, “Sibierski has a tightening of a hamstring, although we do not think he has pulled it, we will have to assess him in the morning. Hopefully it is not too bad.”

Arsenal lost Senderos to an ankle injury in the match warm-up and Sagna after 20 mintues but both are expected to be fit for Tuesday’s Champions League tie according to Wenger.

Newcastle aren’t so lucky with their defensive injuries. They lost Carr to an early hamstring injury against Boro and then his replacement, Ramage, was also forced off mid-way through the second-half with a knee problem. Both seem likely to face absences with Ramage’s injury apparently a serious one. Big Sam has already hinted he’ll be in the market for a full-back to cover the absences.

In the same game, Aliadiere took a knock to his head after a clash with Taylor and was subbed on 71 minutes. No confirmed news on the extent of nature of the injury from Boro as yet.

There are reports that Villa’s Petrov picked up an injury at half-time against Fulham although other sources state it was a tactical change. Either way, his place is seriously under threat given that his replacement, Luke Moore starred as Villa turned the game in the second-half. Wilfred Bouma did however take a knock late in the game and was subbed late on – no prognosis on that right now.

Jamie Carragher cracked a rib and a damaged lung against Sunderland while Hypia suffered a broken nose. Carragher requires no further treatment apparently but is out of Tuesday’s Champions League game. Hypia trained on Sunday apparently and is likely to be in contention.

*Update* Carragher is improving but Rafa needs to consult the Club Doctors before he can be sure of his length of absence. It seems likely that he’ll be out until at least until Liverpool’s game against Portsmouth on September 15.

Sunderland lost Kieron Richardson early in the first half against Liverpool with a back injury. It’s described as “not too bad” by Keane so you can make of that what you will. Given that Richardson apparently had the same issue pre-season, it appears that he’ll make it at the weekend, particularly as Sunderland visit United.

Everton picked up injuries to Stubbs and Carsley against Blackburn. Both players suffered groin strains and will both be doubts for next weekend’s game against Bolton. Jagielka and Lescott seem set to step into the side although with Moyes this season, you can never tell.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
