Benni McCarthy looks unlikely to return to the Blackburn lineup against Chelsea at the weekend after Mark Hughes revealed just how much the striker is struggling for confidence.
McCarthy has gone seven games without a goal and was dropped to the bench for the Carling Cup tie against Arsenal on Tuesday with Derbyshire starting alongside the in-form Santa Cruz. Hughes has hinted that Derbyshire will get the nod again at the weekend.
“He’s (McCarthy) a quality player but I have to go with the players who are showing confidence in their play and ability to affect games”, remarked Hughes.
“At the moment, Benni is finding it a little bit difficult in that respect.”
