Sunderland are yet to reveal the extend of the knee injury suffered by Kenywne Jones against England on Sunday amidst fears that the striker could miss the start of the season.
Jones clashed with David James early on in the friendly between England and Trinidad & Tobago and the early fears surrounding injury was that the big striker had ruptured his cruciate ligaments. That would have ruled him out for around 9-months. Those fears have since been allayed, however there’s yet to be confirmation on the prognosis from the club [source].
It is widely thought that Jones has suffered Medial ligament damage which would sidelined him for around two to three months, ruling him out of Sunderland’s pre-season schedule. That could see Jones fit for the start of the season on August 16 but with no pre-season behind him, his return could well be postponed until a month later.
Jones enjoyed a successful first season with Sunderland in the Premiership and in fantasy terms offered excellent value with 7 goals and 10 assists over the season for a budget price. He is likely to be a popular target as a mid-price option for next season but this injury will certainly cast serious doubt over his consideration for initial fantasy lineups.
