Harry Redknapp snapped up Reading winger Glenn Little on a free on Friday [source]. The Reading man joins Pompey on a free after suffering a season of frustration. Little made just two appearances as sub after an Achilles injury and subsequent surgery kept him watching from the sidelines as Reading got themselves relegated.
While this will rank amongst one of the least glamorous moves of the summer, it could well have some significance for those fantasy managers scratching around for mid-price talent. The right side of midfield has been a problem area for Portsmouth, with Redknapp forced to play the likes of Diarra and Davis out of position to balance the side. Little is likely to get opportunities next season then and with Defoe and maybe Crouch up front, he could well profit. His potential to provide assists is well known – 7 in 18 Premiership starts in 2006-07 and 14 in 34 starts in Reading’s promotion year, provide enough evidence for fantasy managers to take notice although Harry is also sniffing around Nobby Solano, which should provide further options on the Portsmouth right. Regardless, Little is certainly worth watching in pre-season.
