Wigan have finally completed the signing of Egytian striker Amr Zaki. The 25 year-old will put pen to paper on a one year loan deal that will offer Wigan the option to buy in January.
This guy has various nicknames – “The Egyptian Gladiator”, “The Egyptian Bulldozer”, “The Egyptian Rooney”. All of which seem to indicate that he won’t be shirking from the physical stuff he’s likely to encounter from day one in the Premiership.
The stats show Zaki to have a very decent record. Indeed his strike rate in International football 27 goals in 48 appearances, ranks him as the world’s top striker according to FIFA. He notched 22 goals in 54 games for El Zamalek in the Egyptian league over two seasons.
Steve Bruce was delighted to have finally got his man after 10 weeks or protracted negotiation with El Zamalek.
“I think our supporters will love him because he’s a passionate boy who plays with his heart on his sleeve. He is all- action; physically powerful, great in the air, with two great feet and a good turn of pace,” remarked the Wigan boss today.
It is believed that Wigan will have to pay something in the region of £1.3 million for the striker, plus additional fees, including a £500,000 fee if Zaki bags 10 goals whilst on loan. That will be an interesting one to watch for, particularly if he’s sitting on 9 goals just before January. Wishful thinking perhaps but worth monitoring none the less.
Wigan are set to take on Eintracht Frankfurt tonight with Zaki seemingly likely to get a sniff of action on Friday when Bruce takes his men to face Hannover 96.
