Everton have revealed that Tim Cahill could well be fit and available for the first game of the season.
The midfielder has been continuing his rehabilitation in Australia after undergoing an operation to cure a long-standing metatarsal problem. Cahill has reportedly linked up with the Everton squad for their US tour and club officials now give him a fighting chance of making the first game of the season against Blackburn on August 16.
“He’s running now and everything seems to be going on the right track, touch wood, so we’re looking to have him fit and ready for the season,” announced assistant boss Steve Round.
News of Cahill’s progress couldn’t have come at a better time after the club agreed to let Andrew Johnson join Fulham earlier today. Cahill struck 10 goals in 28 appearances for Everton last season.
