Mark Hughes saw his City side ease their way through to the second qualifying round of the UEFA Cup after a 2-0 win over EB/Streymur this evening.
Here’s the notes…
Man City 2 EB/Streymur 0
City progressed to the second qualifying round of the UEFA Cup with a 4-0 aggregate win over Faroe Island minnows EB Streymur at Oakwell.
City dominated the game and created chance after chance but found themselves frustrated by a brave performance, particularly from Torgard in goal. Daniel Sturridge looked particularly lively in the first half but he was denied on several occasions by the keeper.
Petrov finally broke the deadlock early in the second half, firing home from a Vassell cross. Vassell then got his name on the scoresheet in the final minute, rounding the keeper from a Chad Evans flick on.
Hughes made four changes from the side that took the field in the first leg. Corluka, Elano, Fernandes and Sturridge replacing Onuoha, Hamann, Ireland and Jo.
From a fantasy perspective there were few points of interest. Hart consolidated his position as number one with his start here, while new signing Ben Haim wasn’t registered in time for this match.
City now go into tomorrow’s draw, along with Aston Villa, for the second qualifying round with first leg ties played on August 14.
Man City vs EB/Streymur:
Hart, Corluka, Dunne, Richards, Ball, Johnson, Fernandes (Hamann 61), Petrov (Etuhu 70), Elano, Vassell, Sturridge (Evans 70).
