Tottenham have confirmed a deal with Man City for defender Vedran Corluka with a fee of £8.5 million being reported.

This always looked on the cards once news came in of City’s swoop for Argentinian right back Pablo Zabaleta. It does of course present a poser for the many fantasy managers who drafted in Corluka as a City player. Corluka will be first choice at right back while Hutton is sidelined but the Spurs defence has never been a reliable source of clean sheets – certainly City look a better bet defensively.

Tottenham’s forthcoming fixture could at least offer some breathing space. Corluka will make his debut against Villa on September 13 – that looks an unlikely clean sheet. After that though, Ramos’ side have home games with Wigan and Hull and trips to Portsmouth and Stoke. None of those will be easy games but it could allow some fantasy managers the time to delay shipping out Corluka for a while at least.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
