The the Saturday morning tinkering support club opens its doors with some last minute team news and pre-match nerves before things kick off at Goodison.
Let’s start with some team news that you may have missed yesterday – starting with the derby clash. Rafa will give late fitness tests to Benayoun and Mascherano before the game – both were assessed in training on Friday and I’m expecting the latter to start in midfield. It’s also worth noting that that report states that Aurellio is fit and available to Rafa today.
Rafa’s formation is certainly up for discussion – all the talk surrounds Gerrard and that 100th goal for the club. It does look pre-ordained that it will come in this derby match given the fact that Gerrard’s free kick against Stoke was ruled out last weekend. The key for me is just how Rafa plays his skipper. If he pushes him up just off Torres up front in the Keane role then Gerrard will surely be a strong bet for healthy fantasy returns. Plenty are tipping Keane to start though and talk of him coming to the fore in the early kick off.
For Everton, Arteta owners can rest easy – he is expected to start. Can’t see Moyes going with Saha from the off though – it will surely be the 4-5-1 with Cahill pushed up with Yakubu.
Elsewhere there’s late talk of Matt Taylor making a return to action for Bolton at Old Trafford – news broke courtesy of the players own blog . Good to know that Taylor is back in the frame – not that this has any real impact on today’s fixture for me.
There are also reports this morning that Diarra could make a return to the injury ravaged Portsmouth midfield against Spurs – if that is the case, he could certainly give the edge to the home side in a tight game. Bale is a late doubt in that one and will have a test on a foot injury. It could be that Lennon starts on the left then with Bentley recalled. Oh, and Sonko is apparently fit to return to the Stoke defence with Cort likely to miss out.
I’m still unsure on the United lineup today. Plenty of talk yesterday from Ferguson on Rooney’s form and rotation – could he be the one benched against Bolton. One thing looks certain, Tevez will start and I’m sticking with him in the picks.
That’s about it for team news right now. Moving on to the FPL captain debate and I’m still sticking with Fabregas for the picks – failure to score big against Hull will have me twitching in the coming weeks though and I’ll doubt I’ll be alone. Lampard still looks strong for points in a Deco-less Chelsea side and, if you believe in destiny, then Stevie G is worth consideration. I’m still a little worried about Rafa’s tactics though – will he really go all out for a win? He really should with Everton’s current defensive form but there’s no guarantees after the approach he took at Villa Park earlier in the season.
Outside of the picks, my own personal debate this morning has involved a Zaki vs Wright Phillips conundrum for my final eleven in the FPL. I’m currently keeping faith with the Wigan striker over SWP – could be costly if I get that wrong but then that’s the fun of the fair. So far this season, I’ve been making the right calls in Guardian game and making some pretty unspectacuar decisions in the Fantasy Premier League. Wright Phillips is in my Guardian lineup at Wigan, so there’s every chance that pattern will continue and I’ll fair better in that game again this weekend.
I’ve got a good feeling about this week though. Then again, I said that last week. Good luck everyone.
