A nervy Spurs were the first to make it through to UEFA Cup group circus, edging through courtesy of a 1-1 draw at Wisla Krakow with Bentley watching on from the bench – again.
Ramos made a host of changes to his lineup – the most interesting of which saw Bentley again benched, with Campbell coming in as Ramos switched to 4-4-2. Pavlyuchenko and Corluka were cup-tied, so Bent got a start and Gunter came in at right back. King returned alongside Woodgate as expected, and Bale was fit and returned at left back for Assou-Ekotto.
Aside from the lineup changes, there was little to take from this one. Campbell took his chance again though – instrumental in the goal that eventually took Spurs through, forcing a Wisla defender to put through his own net from a Bale cross.
Expect changes for the weekend game with Hull then – a vital one for Ramos. Pavlyuchenko and Corluka will be hot favourites to return, and Campbell could possibly keep his place if Ramos opts for 4-4-2 again. Poyet remarked in the week that he felt that Bent couldn’t play with the Russian signing, so if the formation stays, so could Campbell.
Bentley will of course, be banking on a recall, but that’s by no means guaranteed, with Ramos clearly fancying Lennon over him. The ex-Rover is having a shocker of a start to his Spurs career and is currently wandering a wilderness in fantasy terms.
