Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Gallas, Sagna and Bendtner will all sit out Arsenal’s next two games after picking up injuries during the international break.
Gallas is carrying a hamstring injury, Sagna suffered and knee injury and Bendtner picked up an ankle knock in training for Denmark. All three will miss this weekend’s Everton clash and the Champions League tie with Fenerbache on Tuesday.
Wenger was also unsure on the availability of Fabregas, Van Persie and Djourou who will all be assessed prior to the weekend, although the Arsenal boss was apparently rather positive on their chances of making it…
Djourou and Van Persie should both be okay – the latter turned out as a second half sub for Holland last night and, with Bendtner now no longer an option, he should start unchallenged. Djourou meanwhile, could well come into the defence along with Silvestre, to replace the injured Gallas and Sagna.
Although Wenger is confident that these latest injuries are short term, he has underestimated injuries, or at least presented an optimistic view of them, in the past – Van Persie’s recent problems spring to mind. It could be that Silvestre and Djourou may offer some decent short-term value, even beyond this weekend. Then again, the Arsenal back defence is probably not something you want to invest in given the upheaval.
