There’s something up with Ronaldo. Yes the fantasy points are rolling in but there’s something not quite right.

First there’s the non-celebrations for his goal against West Brom and then again last night, when he reportedly rejected the pull of jubilation for Berbatov’s opener while his team mates ran to the scorer. Then there’s this business about him even playing in that game….

First Ferguson suggests he’ll rest him, then it’s revealed that Ronaldo “demanded” to play.

What’s going on with this? Ferguson revealing that he was given a demand by a player which he then gave into? According to the UEFA Champions League site, Ferguson even appears to get a sly dig in on Ronaldo. Allegedly Ferguson revealed…

“Ronaldo demanded to play this morning, he said he was not tired. I listened to his youthful wisdom.”

Youthful wisdom?

Ronaldo obviously wants to play on the biggest stage. That’s not surprising. I am surprised that Ferguson backed down however. What kind of reaction did Ferguson get when Ronaldo heard the news? With the player’s recent body language on the pitch, you have to question his current state of mind with regards to his situation at Old Trafford. It’s far from a full on sulk but something is clearly not right.

Will Ferguson bench him for either of the next two games? There’s clearly a risk. There’s even the suggestion that Ronaldo took a knock to his knee – handing Ferguson a handy explanation. If he does, it’s going to be interesting to see what kind of reaction we get from the player.

For fantasy managers, there’s an uncertainty. A nasty one. With Lampard facing Liverpool, this looks like a prime week to turn to Ronaldo for FPL captain points. I’m still reserving judgement and right now – I’m backing him against Everton. I’m listening very carefully to the noises coming out of Old Trafford though and watching Ronaldo’s little expressions on the pitch. I doubt we’ll see a wink for a good while.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
