Wenger’s tickled pink as Bendtner hands the Gunners a last gasp win at the Emirates, as Arsenal find a passage through to the next round of the Champions League. As for United, they grind out a predictably efficient draw in Spain as they and Villarreal progress. How convenient. Here’s the notes from Tuesday’s games…

The Arsenal lineup saw Gallas restored to the defence as expected then, with Djouro switching to right back with Gavin Hoyte benched. Elsewhere Nasri and Diaby missed out with injuries sustained in training on Monday. They joined the likes of Walcott, Toure and Adebayor who are already on the treatment table at the Emirates. Interestingly, the absence of Walcott saw Wenger turn to Ramsey to occupy the right midfield slot.

Ramsey’s situation is certainly worth monitoring – he’s available as a budget purchase across the games and could well find himself earning a run of games. I’m still convinced that Nasri will start in this role however – the weekend clash at Stamford Bridge should provide the answers.

Denilson shifted out onto the left tonight, with Song taking up alongside skipper Fabregas in central midfield. Vela started up front with Van Persie, with the eventual match winner, Bendtner, starting the evening on the bench.

Fabregas had a decent game, including a killer pass for Bendtner’s winner. He’ll doubtless raise his game further having been handed the captaincy but his fantasy credentials are still in question in terms of his goal output. I’d expect the armband to bring him greater awareness and an increase in FPL bonus from the press boys.

We’ll doubtless see Arsenal changes at Chelsea. Nasri and Diaby are likely to figure, while news on Adebayor’s injury is still scarce with no official details on the condition from the club. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him return to the starting lineup then, although Bendtner’s goal will have reassured Wenger that he can do a job.

The Gunners have one remaining game in these stages and will want to win the group by coming out on top against Porto on December 10. It will be a tricky trip for Wenger’s men but, with the guarantee of passage to the next round, the Arsenal boss may well be less likely to rest players against Wigan the weekend before.

Over in Spain, Ferguson made five changes to his lineup. Nani and Fletcher came in for Park and Giggs in midfield, while Anderson replaced Tevez, as United shifted to one up front. Kuszczak got a start for the rested van der Sar and Evans replaced Vidic who was also handed a break. Ronaldo started then, as expected, while Berbatov sat this one out with his hamstring injury. O’Shea kept the right back spot with Rafael on the bench.

A draw suited both sides so the outcome was hugely predictable. Like Wenger, Ferguson is set to make changes for the weekend. Bebatov would seem likely to come into the reckoning having sat out the last two with his hamstring. Giggs and Park could make returns – certainly the latter looks odds on to start at Eastlands. Vidic and Van der sar are certain to make returns.

Ronaldo requested to start again tonight and got another duffing up from defenders. He picked up a bruised knee but it’s hard to imagine that keeping him out at Eastlands at the weekend. Once again, he was involved in the majority of United’s attacking play and came closest to winning the game with an effort that rattled the Villarreal bar.

Ferguson can now approach the game against Aalborg BK on December 10th with a relaxed attitude having progressed through the group stages. That should help us fantasy managers when it comes to rest and rotation for the home game with Sunderland the weekend before.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
