Man City’s Benjani faces another spell on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury in Saturday’s defeat to Everton.
The Zimbabwe striker was replaced by Jo at half-time having picked up the injury and Hughes has confirmed that that he will now face time on the sidelines having just returned to the first-team fold following a calf injury…
“We’ve lost Benjani again at the weekend with a hamstring and he’ll probably be out for a number of weeks. We’re a bit threadbare,” remarked Hughes today.
Benjani had just crept onto the fantasy radar following his goal at Fulham a fortnight ago. Strong City fixtures also played in his favour and he was beginning to attract fantasy suitors. Now however, this new injury will take him out of the reckoning and hand the likes of Jo, Evans and Sturridge the opportunity for a starting role, with Sturridge the more likely to step in once he’s recovered from illness. He could well offer decent value over the next couple of weeks as a budget consideration.
