Jermaine Pennant has agreed a loan move to Portsmouth for the rest of the season.
The Liverpool trickster has made just a handful of appearances for Rafa’s side this season and Adams has targeted the former Gunner to provide the ammunition for Crouch. So is Pennant ripe for picking?
While the neglected winger will have a massive point to prove to Rafa, it’s interesting that he has spent four previous spells on loan in his career, making 69 appearances at Watford (twice), Leeds and Birmingham – scoring just 5 goals. Goals aren’t his forte however. Pennant is very much an assist machine and there is clear potential in his link-up with the towering Crouch.
He will certainly be priced very reasonably across the games (5.9 in the FPL) but the key consideration will be the opposition he will face in the coming weeks. The fixtures do not fall kindly. Portsmouth face an evil run of opponents in the next month (AVL ful LIV stk mun). Indeed Adams’ side appear to face an uphill struggle until the end of February but do have a brief window of fixtures in March that look fairly kind (hul WBA BOL new) from gameweek 31-34. Outside of this, the Fratton Park fraternity look unwise investments.
Pennant is worth monitoring then and could be worth a short-term flutter if his and Pompey’s form picks up. For now however, this little loan signing won’t be bothering too many fantasy radars.
