The Fantasy Premier League game got busy today, pricing up some of the new arrivals in the transfer window. In addition to the rather unexciting classification of Arshavin as a 9.5 forward, we were treated to a whole host of new names to consider. See if you can uncover any inspiration amongst this little lot…
Quaresma perhaps offers the nearest we get to a wishlist contender. He arrives as a midfielder and is priced at 8.0 – that puts him below Chelsea’s other second-string fantasy midfielders – Ballack (currently 8.7), Joe Cole (8.7 ) Deco (8.9) and Kalou (8.3). That makes him a viable option, even for Lampard owners, when Chelsea’s fixtures fall kindly, depending of course on Quaresma claiming and maintaining a starting role and showing some form.
Giles Barnes arrives in the game as a new Fulham midfielder priced at 5.0. That puts him on equal footing with Dempsey and just below the likes of Davies (5.3) and Murphy (5.6). Dacourt also presents a new option in the Fulham midfield at (4.5), although he offers very little potential in attacking terms. Barnes may get some attention for Fulham’s double fixture gameweek’s, although bringing him in this week would be a gamble but possibly a risky differential.
Portsmouth’s new signing, Greek national skipper Basinas, arrives at 4.5. Like Dacout, he is a defensive player who offers little potential to us fantasy managers. Compatriot and fellow new signing Theofanis Gekas could be a more attractive option, although the FPL have yet to add him to the roster. I’d expect to see him come in around the 7.0-7.5 mark which would still put him below Crouch on the pecking order for me – at least until we’ve seen how he adjusts.
Finally, and we’re really barrel scraping here I imagine, West Brom’s new signings sneak into the game with Argentinian striker/winger Juan Carlos Menseguez being classified as a midfielder and priced at 5.0. Defensive midfielder Youssuf Mulumbu meanwhile, arrives at 4.5.
