Arsenal barely needed to shift through the gears to find passage to the FA Cup fifth round. Eduardo made a welcome return from his horrific injury and marked it with a brace to put him back in Wengers’s plans and maybe even back on the fantasy radar….
Wenger shuffled his lineup somewhat bringing in Fabianski in goal and Gibbs at left-back for the rested Clichy. Further forward Vela earned a start wide on the left, with Nasri shifting to the right. Bendtner and Eduardo were paired up front.
There’s perhaps little to take from that lineup then – although the fact that Van Persie was rested perhaps hints that he will start the weekend clash with Sunderland. This is by no means guaranteed however. Despite Adebayor’s absence, Wenger may feel he has enough with Bendtner, Eduardo and perhaps a debut for Arshavin, to see off the Black Cats. Van Persie owners will stil be shifting uncomfortably when the team-sheets come in on Saturday afternoon then.
Eduardo will undoubtedly be eased back into regular action so I imagine he’ll be on the bench at the weekend, although he certainly looked sharp enough in this one with an early header and a smartly converted spot-kick (albeit after a rather elaborate fall in the box). While he will get games and goals between now and the end of the season, personally I feel his role in fantasy terms will be mainly as a Wenger rotation option and problem for fantasy managers rather than a prospect in his own right. With Arshavin and Eduardo at his disposal and Bendtner also pushing for starts, Wenger seems set to cause plenty of anxiety for fantasy owners of Van Persie and Adebayor.
As I’ve mentioned previously in my notes, if you’re looking to invest in Arsenal’s forthcoming run of favourable fixtures – you may well be better off looking at their back four. The Gunners have conceded just 1 goal in their last 5 games in all competitions.
