As reported by Greek Fan’s tweet earlier today, Birmingham are set to be without new striker Christian Benitez for the start of the season. The Ecuadorian is recovering from a shoulder operation and it’s estimated by Brum boss Alex McCleish that his new striker is still five weeks away from returning to full training.
Foch’s recent ‘Catch Up’ article rightly identified Benitez as a prospect this season, given his goal record in the Mexican leagues and his humble price tag across the fantasy games. However, as an unknown factor in the Premier League, he should still be considered a risk and this news will only reinforce any pre-season doubts…
McCleish has already ruled Benitez out of the opener at Old Trafford and, considering he’ll be short on pre-season games, it could be several matches before we begin to see Benitez at full tilt.
Fantasy Managers will now have to look elsewhere for their initial budget options up front with Wolves’ Ebanks-Blake still the clear front-runner. He is currently owned by 15% of Fantasy Premier League managers – his next rival in the budget bracket is James Beattie, coming in at 0.5 more expensive and with 9% ownership. It’s the same story in the Daily Telegraph game, where Ebanks-Blake is leading the budget selections, commanding 7.68% ownership.
