Just in case you missed Greek Fan’s tweet yesterday, you should be aware that Rafa has confirmed that Fabio Aurellio is on his way back from injury and is “very close” to a return.
Aurellio missed the start of the season with a knee problem, suffered in pre-season. As a result, Emiliano Insua has started both of Liverpool’s games so far and is due to be on the team-sheet again for Monday’s fixture will Villa. Given his comparatively modest price in the Liverpool defence, Insua has become a decent fantasy target over the first couple of gameweeks. His appeal has been compounded by recent injuries to Carragher, Skrtel and Agger, which have made selection from the Liverpool rearguard a very tricky pursuit.
However, Aurellio’s impending return to first-team contention spells trouble for Insua who will surely be subject to rotation once the Brazilian is fit. With the confirmation of the arrival of Greek centre back Sotirios Kyrgiakos coming this weekend, competition for starting roles in the Liverpool defence is fierce, handing us fantasy managers an even bigger “Rafatation” nightmare. It appears we’ll need to shell out for the likes of Reina, Carragher and Johnson if we want any real security from our Liverpool clean sheet fetchers.
