Edwin Van der Sar has declared himself fit and ready for a return in United’s home clash with Bolton next gameweek. The lanky Dutch stopper has been out since breaking his hand in pre-season but is now set to oust Ben Foster after the England wannabee recorded his lastest gaffe in the 2-2 draw with Sunderland.

Reports suggest that Ferguson pointed the finger at Foster for Kenwyne Jones’ goal on Sunday and with Foster dropping out of the England squad for the internationals, the United boss looks odds on to recall Van der Sar to his nets. The 39-year-old came through 90 minutes of reserve action on Tuesday night to prove his fitness.

In fantasy terms, the fat lady appears to be clearing her throat for Fosters points potential. Despite looking a bargain purchase, Foster has brought investors just two clean sheets in eight league starts. Van der Sar comes in as a far more expensive prospect, but will likely have a positive influence on the defence in front of him. He’ll start with a decent clean sheet prospect at home to Bolton and also has Blackburn at home to come in the next four. Those couple of tasty fixtures are balanced by trips to Liverpool and Chelsea however. Given the current trend towards heavy scoring attacking players, it’s unlikley we’ll see big investment in Van der Sar just yet.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
