Spurs 2-0 victory over West Ham last Monday afternoon seems to have come at a severe cost, with confirmation from White Hart Lane that flying right winger Aaron Lennon will be out for a few weeks with a groin tear.

Tottenham currently sit in fourth place in the Premiership and Lennon, one of their star performers, has been in the form of his career this season, his performances pivotal in the club’s drive for a Champion’s League place.

The return to action of Spurs playmaker Luka Modric could not have been more timely then, as Harry Redknapp looks to re-shape his first XI in the absence of the diminutive England international.

Modric was an automatic first-choice pick for Spurs until breaking his leg in a tussle with Lee Bowyer back in August. This week saw his first league start since said injury, and he responded in emphatic fashion, getting the opener in a rather one-sided game against his gaffer’s former employers in a performance that earned him 10 FPL points in total.

Spurs next five fixtures see them play Liverpool (away) Hull (home) Fulham (home) Birmingham (away) Villa (home) and Modric -at just 7.1m in FPL- will be hoping the West Ham performance is indicative of things to come, as the Londoners look to underline their top four credentials in the New Year. Modric will have a lot of responsibility on his shoulders but has the talent to fill the void left by Lennon. That’s enough for us to place Modric on our Watchlist.
