Liverpool appear to have suffered a twin injury blow ahead of their double fixture gameweek with both Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard picking up knocks in tonight’s FA Cup third round replay with Reading.
The game is still going on as this is typed with Liverpool leading by a 1-0 margin courtesy of an own goal with Gerrard the architect. The news of interest however concerns the departure of Fernando Torres after just half an hour of the match. According to one early report he has not suffered a further complication with his groin injury but instead has sustained a twisted knee.
As for Gerrard, he remained in the dressing room at half-time with the BBC reporting that he’s tweaked a hamstring. The substitution is described as a precautionary measure on Rafa’s part but will still be a concern to him and us fantasy managers as we go into Liverpool’s double gameweek…
With games against Stoke and Spurs in gameweek 22, both Gerrard and Torres are set to gain significant fantasy investment. This latest turn of events looks set to cast doubt over their involvement at the weekend. Let’s not panic just yet though – I’m sure we will hear more on these latest knocks in Rafa’s post match comments, with full assessments likely to follow in the next 24 hours. As always, keep ’em peeled for Greek Fan’s tweets for the latest and we will bring you a summary on the situation tomorrow.
