Arsene Wenger has revealed that Thomas Vermaelen’s injury sustained at Villa Park last night is not a break and the Belgian could yet be in contention for Sunday’s clash with United at the Emriates.

It was feared that Vermaelen faced a lengthy lay-off having left Villa Park on crutches, but although his condition will require monitoring leading up to the weekend, he has every chance of making the game.

Wenger was typically informative in his press conference today, revealing that both Song and Eboue will return to the squad for Sunday’s fixture having returned from the African Cup of Nations. Abou Diaby remains on the sidelines along with Eduardo who picked up a “small small small” hamstring injury in last night’s game. Both are expected to be in contention for the visit to Chelsea in gameweek 25.

Wenger’s lineup for the United game will likely see Song return to the holding role, with Denilson and Fabregas set to complete the midfield. Bendtner would seem set to be in contention for a start up front in Eduardo’s absence, although the Gunners could go with a Nasri, Arshavin and Rosicky front three. Theo Walcott could also be in Wenger’s plans.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
