From this week on I’m going to be closing the Fantasy Premier League Captain poll and summing up the results in a post before each deadline. This handily gives me the opportunity to clear the poll off the front page and gives me the excuse to refresh the discussion nice and early with a new post.
This week’s poll was possibly the closest in recent memory, with the Chelsea’s Didier Drogba (22%) just holding off the late charge of Fernando Torres (19%). Chelsea duo Frank Lampard (17%) and Florent Malouda (8%) come in third and fourth, while Hull’s Jimmy Bullard collected 7% of the vote in fifth.
It’s interesting that Chelsea dominate the poll quite so much given that they will face their FA Cup semi-final with Villa this weekend before their gameweek league fixture with Bolton on Tuesday. Drogba could certainly be vulnerable to another touch of rotation given that he is nursing a hernia, but that hasn’t put you off the majority from handing him the armband. Myself, I’m looking at Torres unless I bring in a likely candidate with my transfers this morning.
Over to you now; the top ten from our poll is listed below. Use this thread to discuss your options as we approach the deadline.
* Drogba (22%, 605 Votes)
* Torres (19%, 505 Votes)
* Lampard (17%, 454 Votes)
* Malouda (8%, 218 Votes)
* Bullard (7%, 192 Votes)
* Tevez (7%, 190 Votes)
* Etherington (4%, 120 Votes)
* Bent (2%, 65 Votes)
* Gerrard (2%, 64 Votes)
* Diaby (1%, 22 Votes)
One last point – due to high traffic around FPL deadlines, I’ve increased the interval between comments to 8 seconds or less so please be patient if you are unable to post you comment initially. I’ll be opening the Saturday Surgery chat room later this morning to cater for your deadline discussions in real-time and the comment interval time will drop once we are past the deadline.
