The stakes were extremely high this week in the Fantasy Football Scout Cup II, sponsored by Paddy Power, as eight fantasy managers were reduced to four. Losing in the quarter-finals is arguably the most disappointing round to exit, as three of the final four are guaranteed cash prizes. To find out who missed out and who significantly improved their chances of a prize, read on…

IMWORTHIT 83 – 79 fiacloir

The first quarter-final was the highest scoring and closest tie of the round which saw IMWORTHIT prevail over his opponent fiacloir. fiacloir’s 79 was the highest score not to go through to the semi-finals.

mysteryDave 70 – 84 Buggu

In our second match-up both mysteryDave and Buggu both decided not to make a transfer and that resulted in Buggu coming out on top, thanks mainly to his captain Frank Lampard.

Steve 60 – 83 Louie

Yet again both managers decided against making any transfers in the third quarter-final, as the top-ranked manager in the competition Louie progressed to the semi-finals. Steve may be regretting leaving Darren Bent on the bench behind Jimmy Bullard, and not captaining Steven Gerrard over Ashley Young but even those two decisions would not have seen him through.

Squerly4568 59 – 84 Jonty

The last quarter-final between Squerly4568 and Jonty was the tie with the widest margin of victory, and even had Squerly4568 not spent four points on bringing in Wayne Rooney for Didier Drogba (enabling him to put out a full eleven) he would have still been beaten. This was the only tie where the lower ranked manager was victorious.

Unusually, the highest scorers in the round all progressed, and did so within a point of each other. The winner of the free £25 bet courtesy of Paddy Power however, is Buggu, thanks to his superior overall rank to Jonty.

Congratulations to our semi-finalists, who will discover their opponent later in the Scoutcast.
