This Sunday business isn’t working for me; I’m not sure I like my sleepy state interrupted by the pressures of a Fantasy transfer deadline. It’s not just any deadline either. Unbelievably the mini-league gap between Granville and myself is just three points. So, while top spot is regrettably out of reach, our “little” rivalry has gone right to the wire. A day or rest? No chance…

I can’t even cling to routine to find reassurance. While the normal preamble finds me wandering through the Saturday morning papers analysing the key team selection posers – I’ve yet to wade through the bloated Sunday papers. Besides, our usual team selection issues seem to have melted away. All the key players – Drogba, Rooney, Lampard – will start. The real issue is just how damage they will do and how many we can afford to stuff into our final lineups.

It all means that, if like myself and Granville, you’ve still got something to play for today, then you’re going to have to be comfortable with the idea of luck playing a major part.

A player will get an injury and be replaced at half-time. A defender will be subbed on 59 minutes and miss out on a clean sheet. A striker will get an assist as a result of a deflection when they maybe should have got a goal. Several players (Arteta, Lampard, Milner) will get Fantasy Premier League bonus points regardless of how they or anyone else performs in their team. These are all events to come. You might as well be resigned to it and just hope they drop in your lap and not that of your opponent.

This is why we’re here though. This is why we play Fantasy Football. We’ve come to take joy from the predictable, “unfair” elements of this game and embrace them along with those outcomes that fall so deliciously according to our plans. Let’s enjoy the final day of our season then and hope it’s those plans that win the day and not a dodgy bonus point decision.

With a journey to London to make, I’m going to sign off on this preamble at this point. I leave you with the usual wishes for the best of luck and a thank you for your amazing support for the site over the season.

All that’s left is for me to delcare that the “Sunday Surgery” chatroom is now open.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
