Paul Konchesky’s expected move to Anfield has been completed this afternoon with Fulham now announcing the departure of the left-back on their official site and Liverpool confirming the deal on theirs.
The former West Ham full-back joins his old boss Roy Hodgson at Liverpool, presumably at this stage, for an undisclosed fee.
The deal, perhaps the most significant so far for Fantasy Managers on a predictably quiet transfer deadline day so far, brings a 5.0 defender in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game onto our radars as an option within a Liverpool defence that kept 17 clean sheets last season.
Konchesky faces little competition for the starting role at left-back. The position is currently occupied by Dan Agger but he has looked far from comfortable; the fact that he has been preferred to Fabio Aurellio suggests that Hodgson will drop Konchesky straight onto his teamsheet for the trip to Birmingham next time out.
Heavy investment in Konchesky will surely follow then, with a price rise before the Gameweek 4 deadline a possibility. Unless you’re determined to play the money market however, it’s perhaps best advised to hold fire on the acquisition. Liverpool face a tricky trip to St Andrews next as mentioned; they then take on United at Old Trafford in Gameweek 5.
The departure of Konchesky from Craven Cottage should maintain the starting role of Stephen Kelly at left-back although he will likely come under threat from new signing Carlos Salcido. The Mexican international arrived from PSV Eindhoven last week but is yet to appear in the FPL.
