Arsenal and Fantasy Managers look set to be robbed of the early season form of Theo Walcott following an ankle injury sustained in last night’s 3-1 win for England in Switzerland.

Walcott was stretchered off after just 10 minutes after turning on his ankle in the build-up to Wayne Rooney’s early opener.

The prognosis is not yet clear. Fabio Cappello, in confirming the injury, stated that the setback was minor and offered a two-week absence as a likely outcome; Walcott was apparently more optimistic…

“I spoke with Theo and he told me it is not a big problem…I said ‘two weeks’, he said less.”

Walcott was taken to hospital in in Basel for x-rays and we can expect a full assessment of the damage very soon. One thing looks certain, Walcott will miss out when Arsenal entertain Bolton at the Emirates this weekend – a big frustration for those non-wildcard Fantasy Premier League Managers who have recently recruited the flyer following his outstanding showings so far.

The loss of Walcott comes off the back of the recent news that Robin Van Persie will be out until mid October for the Gunners, although Samir Nasri’s return to training this week is timely. Nasri appears to be a likely beneficiary of Walcott’s absence this weekend.

Walcott has been removed from our Watchlist rankings until we know more on the injury.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.
