Cesc Fabregas has just been withdrawn from the field at the Stadium of Light after just 29 minutes of the encounter with Sunderland, this after the Spaniard had given the Gunners the lead with one of the most fortuitous goals of his career.
The Arsenal playmaker rewarded his army of owners with his first league goal of the season after Anton Ferdinand dithered with a clearance only to fire it directly against the boot of the Arsenal skipper which looped it over Mignolet in the home goal. However, the incident appeared to be the cause of the injury which saw Fabregas replaced.
Fabregas played on for a quarter of an hour after the goal, although he was clearly hampered. It was first confirmed as an injury to his right knee but reports later suggested a hamstring problem. Although the setback looks far from serious at this stage, this will come as a concern for Wenger and his legion of Fantasy owners…
Arsenal face West Brom next weekend, a fixture that Fabregas would surely profit from. The key worry for his owners is that this match is followed by a Champions League trip to Partizan Belgrade three days later. Should there be any doubts on his fitness, there would be a concern that Fabregas could be rested against the Baggies with the Champions League tie in mind.
We can only await official confirmation on the injury and keep our browsers fixed on updates from the Emirates throughout the week.
Meanwhile we wait to see if the Fantasy Premier League still award Fabregas three bonus points for getting his boot in the way. Can you guess who around here doesn’t have him in his team?
