Well, well, well what have we here then? A genuine decision to be made when it comes to our Fantasy skipper selection no less.
If there is one thing that the recent news of Cesc’s short absence from play has done, it’s finally reinvigorated part of our Fantasy Football brains that has been otherwise dominated by a certain Ivorian.
Let’s glory in this unique experience and take look at the options on the table for the armband this week…
Arsenal
Cesc Fabregas may now be out of the picture but the allure of a home tie against West Brom is still attracting the greatest proportion of pollsters to the Emirates. Given the abundance of talent in the Gunners armoury it is the secondary faces of Andrei Arshavin and Marouanne Chamakh who have taken up the mantle in the interim. They are currently fighting it out at the top of our poll but Samir Nasri could yet make up ground after his spot-kick showing last night.
Chelsea
Carlo Aneclotti’s side are about to face their first “opportunity to prove they are champions”, but all the same, Didier Drogba will continue to be a popular skipper selection. He has been almost untouchable as a Captain choice this term, with team-mate Florent Malouda the only real threat as a contender. As always plenty will look to Drogba again this week and those who do choose to “stick” look set to earn a degree of differential with a decent proportion set to look elsewhere.
Something Completely Different…
Given the lack of the “obvious”, why not tread the lesser beaten path? In gameweek 4 when Cesc dominated the poll his points total was equaled or bettered by Alcaraz, Essien, Etherington, Adam and Dembele, for example. Back in gameweek 2 when Didier Drogba was a mere glint in our eye, we saw Nolan, Diaby, Gardner and Elmander do just the same. Fortune can favour the brave, though it also smites the foolish.
Liverpool
A week ago Liverpool were far from Fantasy favourites, on Monday we considered whether they had the fixtures for potential investment and now one injury and 24 hours after the poll went live, Steven Gerrard (and team-mate Fernando Torres slightly less so) is amongst the top contenders for best selection for the week. Fantasy football often runs on a fine line.
And the rest…
Tevez, Berbatov and Rooney are a small handful of big-hitters. They may not shine the brightest this week, whether it be down to fixtures or form. However, they are undoubtedly class players and when you pay premium to get that class in your lineup, why not back it with the captaincy? This may be one of few gameweeks where you can afford to “gamble” on their quality and still gain a differential.
So with a cavalcade of options to ponder, why not stew on your own thought process for this coming gameweek by heading back to the frontpage and casting your vote in the weekly poll – just don’t forget to come back here afterward and share your thoughts with the support group when you’re done.
